Title: AGS Vice Principal of Student Services Start Date: January 2027 Term: 1-Year Fixed-Term Contract – Temporary Replacement Accountable to: AGS Principal ___ Summary of Function The Vice Principal of Student Services plays a critical leadership role in ensuring that Mi’gmaq Standards, school policies, regulations and established procedures are consistently upheld and adhered to, while promoting a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that supports student success and well‑being. The position oversees student wellness programs, Special Education, counselling services, Student Services, attendance and engagement initiatives. This role supports the AGS Principal in administrative tasks, student discipline, staff coordination and act as a bridge between students, teachers and parents/guardians. Job Duties Leadership and Administration
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all student support services and initiatives.
- Support the Principal in establishing and maintaining a positive school culture and climate.
- Supervise and evaluate student services staff (e.g., counselors, social workers, behavior specialists, etc.). Student Support & Inclusion
- Ensure timely and effective implementation of support for students with diverse needs, including those with learning exceptionalities, behavioral challenges, and socio‑emotional concerns.
- Collaborate with staff to develop and implement inclusion education practices that respect cultural, linguistic, and individual diversity.
- Oversee initiatives that address bullying prevention, mental health awareness, trauma‑informed practices, and restorative discipline. Family and Community Engagement
- Act as a liaison between the school and families, providing guidance mediation when needed.
- Establishing strong partnerships with community organizations and agencies that support student well‑being.




- Support culturally responsive and community‑based programming that reflects the values and needs of the student population. Attendance, Discipline & Behavior Support
- Monitor student attendance trends and develop interventions to support regular participation.
- Oversee the implementation of behavior management policies.
- Support conflict resolution, mediation, and student conduct investigations in a fair and transparent manner. Professional Development & Capacity Building
- Provide training and support for teachers and staff on student well‑being, equity, and inclusion.
- Promote continuous learning and reflection around mental health, trauma‑informed practices, and culturally safe approaches to student services.
- May be assigned other related duties pertinent to the position. Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field is required.
- Master’s Degree in Education/Administration, Educational Leadership, or a related field is required.
- Demonstrated experience as an educator, with a robust understanding of curriculum development, instructional strategies, and student learning needs.
- Minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience in an educational setting, preferably in a supervisory, administrative, or instructional leadership capacity.
- Previous leadership or administrative experience in an educational setting is considered an asset.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship‑building skills.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze educational data and use findings to inform decision‑making and support continuous improvement.
- Knowledge of inclusive education practices, culturally responsive teaching, and strategies to support diverse student needs.
