About Verlan

Verlan is a French- and Australian-inspired café serving brunch Thursday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For six years, we’ve welcomed guests from Hamilton and beyond while building a strong reputation for excellent food, service and hospitality.

We’re now looking for a vibrant, enthusiastic and dependable café all-rounder who will help us maintain the high standards our guests have come to expect.

The Position

This is a hands-on role covering every aspect of our small café, including:

- Welcoming and serving customers
- Preparing, plating and cooking food
- Making coffee and other beverages
- Taking payments and handling cash
- Washing dishes and cleaning
- Maintaining a clean, organized workspace
- Helping with all other day-to-day café responsibilities

You’ll work very closely with one other person, so transparent, open and respectful communication is vital. We need someone who understands the importance of teamwork, takes initiative and is willing to help wherever needed.

Schedule and commitment

- Thursday through Sunday
- Daytime hours only
- Approximately 3–6 hours per day, depending on the needs of the business
- Weekend availability is an absolute requirement
- Reliability and punctuality are essential





This is a long-term position for someone who can make a genuine commitment to the schedule and the team. It is not suitable for someone seeking seasonal work or regularly needing weekends off.

Our Ideal Candidate

- Preferably has at least three years of experience in a busy, fast-paced café or similar hospitality environment
- Has experience with customer service, food preparation, cash handling and coffee making
- Holds valid Smart Serve and Food Handler certifications
- Communicates openly, clearly and professionally
- Is friendly, personable and confident working with customers
- Is energetic, reliable, punctual and willing to work
- Works well as part of a very small, close-knit team
- Takes pride in maintaining high standards
- Has reliable transportation or another dependable way to commute to 304 Barton Street East and arrive on time
