The work you'll do is more than just a job. At the State of Minnesota, employees play a critical role in developing policies, providing essential services, and working to improve the well-being and quality of life for all Minnesotans. The State of Minnesota is committed to equity and inclusion, and invests in employees by providing benefits, support resources, and training and development opportunities. Facilities Management Division (FMD) is hiring a new Capitol Complex Trade Shop Supervisor for the Electric/Machine Shop. This position is responsible for leading the electricians and machinists who maintain, repair, and build out electrical systems in state buildings, including hiring and evaluating staff, serving as Master of Record to ensure all electrical work is licensed, permitted, and code compliant, directing the Capitol Complex SCADA system, and running the shop’s planned maintenance, thermal imaging, and arc flash safety programs. The supervisor also prepares cost estimates and budgets and responds to emergencies and unplanned repairs.
Occasional travel is required to support facilities located in Mankato and Bemidji. Travel to the Bemidji location is typically required one to two times per year and may involve an overnight stay depending on operational needs.
Minimum Qualifications The following qualifications are required of all applicants seeking consideration for this position. Only applicants whose application materials clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each of these minimum qualifications will be considered for the position.
- Three (3) years of experience providing supervision, lead work direction, or management of electricians, machinists, skilled trades workers, facilities maintenance staff, or other technical personnel engaged in maintenance, repair, construction, or building operations activities.
- Class A Minnesota Master Electrician’s license.
- Class D driver’s license.
- Experience ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and electrical safety requirements, including secure work practices for energized electrical systems.
- Effective interpersonal, human relations, and communication skills to establish and maintain relationships with team members, State agencies,
and external partners.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing or supporting Building Automation Systems (BAS), SCADA systems, industrial controls, or related building technologies.
- Experience interpreting and applying the National Electrical Code (NEC), Minnesota Electrical Code, and applicable electrical safety standards.
- Experience developing or managing Arc Flash, NFPA 70E, or electrical safety programs.
- Experience using infrared thermography or thermal imaging technologies to identify equipment deficiencies and improve system reliability.
- Experience managing maintenance, repair, or capital project budgets in a large facility or campus environment.
- Experience working in a unionized environment and administering collective bargaining agreements.
- Certification or training related to procurement, project management, facilities management, safety management, or building operations.
Additional Requirements Successful candidate must pass a criminal background check through American Data Bank and employment reference checks and a driver's license check. A criminal history does not automatically disqualify an applicant, and each case will be reviewed individually in alignment with fair hiring practices.
