Sureway Metal Systems Ltd. has been delivering innovative steel fabrication and manufacturing solutions since 1970. As we continue to expand our Engineering Department, we are looking for a skilled Mechanical Designer with strong SolidWorks expertise who enjoys turning concepts into practical, buildable products.

This is a hands-on design position where your work goes directly from concept to the shop floor. You'll develop custom steel assemblies, concrete forming systems, and fabrication-ready drawings while working closely with our Engineering and Production teams.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop detailed 3D models, components, and complex assemblies using SolidWorks.
- Prepare accurate fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, part details, and bills of materials (BOMs).
- Design custom steel components, welded assemblies, and concrete forming systems with consideration for manufacturability, functionality, and safety.
- Translate engineering concepts, customer requirements, and project specifications into practical, cost-effective designs.
- Perform thorough self-checks of models, drawings, dimensions, and BOMs to ensure accuracy and completeness before review.
- Collaborate with engineers, project coordinators, and fabrication personnel to resolve design challenges and improve manufacturing efficiency.
- Support design revisions, production troubleshooting, and continuous product improvement.
- Maintain accurate design documentation, follow revision control procedures, and contribute to standardized design practices.

Qualifications & Technical Skills

- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design, or a related discipline. Equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
- 5+ years of mechanical design experience preferred, with demonstrated SolidWorks proficiency.




- Strong SolidWorks skills, particularly with complex assemblies, weldments, and detailed fabrication drawings.
- Good understanding of steel fabrication, welding, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to produce accurate, organized, and shop-ready drawings and bills of materials.
- Familiarity with engineering drawing conventions, dimensional tolerances, and welding symbols.
- Strong technical problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Nice to Have

- Experience designing structural steel assemblies, industrial equipment, concrete forming systems, or custom fabrication equipment.
- Experience with AutoCAD or Autodesk Inventor.
- Familiarity with SolidWorks PDM, FEA, or engineering design validation.
- Experience with parametric modeling, configurations, or design automation.
- Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T;).
- Hands-on experience working with fabrication shops, welders, and machinists.
