Purposeful Change Psychotherapy is seeking a Registered Psychotherapist trained in Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFCT) with experience working with high-conflict couples, betrayal trauma, and complex relationship dynamics. This is an in-person role at both our Vaughan and King City clinics, with weekday daytime, evening, and weekend availability required.

We’re an attachment-informed group practice. We’re looking for a clinician who can stay grounded when conflict escalates, help both partners understand the patterns that keep them stuck, and adapt the work to where each partner stands. Some couples come to repair a betrayal or deepen a relationship they’re committed to. Others need help deciding whether to stay together or navigating a separation with care.

What you’ll do

- Provide couples therapy with EFCT as your primary clinical model. Help partners de-escalate conflict, understand their negative cycle, and build emotional safety and connection.
- Work with couples navigating infidelity, betrayal trauma, and other attachment injuries. Support partners in processing the impact of the injury and rebuilding trust when both choose to work toward repair.
- Provide discernment counselling when partners are uncertain or differ on whether to continue the relationship.
- Offer premarital and relationship counselling to help partners prepare for marriage, navigate transitions, or strengthen the bond in a relationship they’re committed to.
- Support compassionate uncoupling when partners choose to separate, helping them navigate grief, boundaries,



and communication.
- Assess whether conjoint therapy is appropriate, attend to safety and power dynamics, and maintain timely clinical documentation.

Required qualifications

- Current registration in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) as a Registered Psychotherapist OR Masters of Social Work (OCSWSSW)
- Formal training in Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFCT) and experience applying it in clinical work with couples.
- Demonstrated experience working with escalated and clinically complex couples, including couples navigating infidelity or betrayal trauma.
- Experience providing discernment counselling, premarital and relationship counselling, and support for couples navigating separation.
- Availability to see clients in person at both Vaughan and King City, with weekday daytime, evening, and weekend availability.

Additional training we value

- Trauma therapy training, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
- Training in neurodivergence or neurodiversity-affirming practice, particularly with couples.
- Gottman Method training or training in another couples therapy model that complements your EFCT practice.
