Orillia
Full-time, 3-year contract |Target start: January 2027
Help us grow a proven school food system across Simcoe County.
We are hiring a School Fuel Manager to take a proven school food system from three communities to up to six. School Fuel started in Orillia and now runs with food banks in Barrie and Bradford. You will build the partnerships, lead the team and drive change in how school food works across our region, showing what is possible for student nutrition in Ontario.
What School Fuel looks like today
- Ordering that works. Schools order from a Shopify store with 70+ healthy items built for schools. Each food bank runs its own site, and food moves on a steady weekly cycle through existing suppliers.
- Delivery already in place. Food banks buy food into their own facilities and deliver on trucks they already run. No recent fleet and no new warehouse.
- Good food at a discount. Food banks discount the food by at least 25%. Schools pay with their provincial student nutrition funding, and each food bank raises funds to cover the discount.
- A community behind it. Volunteers, teachers and parents help make it happen. We are also piloting weekly hot soup with local ingredients.
- Partners at the table. Food banks in Barrie and Bradford are on board, and school boards, funders and researchers are ready to help. The Coalition for Healthy School Food's June 2026 policy report cites School Fuel as a provincial best practice.
What you will do
- Tour and get to know every Orillia and area student nutrition program, and listen to what schools need and want.
- Build relationships with school board superintendents and trustees and the people who shape school food in our region.
- Hire and lead our In-School Coordinators, starting in Orillia and growing across Simcoe County.
- Champion why school food matters and help reduce the stigma around school food programs. Give your team the messages and tools to help principals,
staff and parents see that the need is often greater than it looks.
- Sign agreements with food bank partners and bring School Fuel to more communities.
- Set up how we measure success, with a data resource to support you.
- Shape our fundraising approach and write quarterly reports that give funders real insight.
- Learn from leaders across the province and the country, and share what we learn.
About the funding The three-year contract is secured. Our funders expect clear details and progress, so a big part of this role is reporting well and sharing results, working with the Executive Director, so the funding continues. Our goal is to make this role permanent as the model grows. You might be our person if
- You have a post-secondary degree or diploma, or extensive experience in community collaboration or relationship management.
- You build relationships easily and are outstanding in a room, whether it is with trustees, principals, teachers, parents or food bank leaders.
- You are passionate about healthy food and how it can transform communities.
- You care about kids and families facing food insecurity. Lived experience is welcome, and it is not required.
- You are comfortable with technology and Microsoft 365, and have solid Excel skills. A data resource will support you.
- You use AI tools to help draft and research, and you always check the facts and stand behind anything you send out.
- You have a valid driver's licence and are comfortable travelling across Simcoe County often.
- Bonus: experience with schools, community organizations or food systems.
What we offer
- $80,000 per year, full-time, 40 hours a week
- A 3-year contract, with the goal of making it permanent
- 3 weeks of vacation and benefits
- Remote work, with a desk at our Orillia location when you need it
- Mileage compensation for travel
- Reporting to the Executive Director, with support from our finance, development and food systems teams and a Shopify expert on contract
Good to know Some evening events will come up from time to time. A police vulnerable sector check is required as a condition of hire.
