About Robert Designs Inc.

Robert Designs Inc. is a growing architectural and interior design firm based in Kingston, Ontario. We specialize in high-end residential design, custom homes, subdivision housing, low-rise developments, renovations, additions, secondary suites, and commercial architectural projects.

Our work ranges from residential renovations and custom homes to commercial interiors, building conversions, and larger architectural developments. We combine thoughtful design with practical construction knowledge and comprehensive technical documentation.

As our project portfolio and team continue to expand, we are seeking a highly experienced Senior Architectural Designer / Technical Lead to take a leadership role in our firm's architectural production, project delivery, and technical drawing standards.

About the Position

We are looking for an exceptionally skilled, highly productive architectural professional with advanced proficiency in both AutoCAD and Revit, strong Ontario Building Code knowledge, and extensive experience preparing residential and commercial architectural drawings.

This is a senior technical leadership position, not simply a drafting role.

The successful candidate will independently manage architectural projects from initial client consultation and site mapping through design development, permit submissions, and construction documentation.

You will also be responsible for overseeing drawing quality control, mentoring junior architectural drafters, improving production workflows, and maintaining the technical standards of our growing firm.

Exceptional drafting speed, accuracy, independent problem-solving, and professional client communication are essential.

We are seeking someone who can confidently take ownership of projects, efficiently produce comprehensive drawing packages, and help strengthen the technical capabilities of our entire team.

Key ResponsibilitiesArchitectural Design & Technical Drafting

- Independently prepare comprehensive architectural permit and construction drawing packages for residential and commercial projects.
- Produce accurate site plans, floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, elevations, building sections, wall sections, construction details, schedules, and technical notes.
- Demonstrate expert-level proficiency in both AutoCAD and Revit, including highly efficient drafting, modelling, detailing, and documentation workflows.
- Work across a variety of building types, including custom homes, subdivision developments, low-rise residential buildings, additions, renovations, secondary suites, and commercial projects.
- Translate design concepts into coordinated, technically accurate, permit-ready and construction-ready documentation.
- Apply Ontario Building Code requirements, including Part 9 and applicable Part 3 provisions.
- Coordinate architectural drawings with structural, mechanical, electrical, and other consultant documentation.
- Independently identify and resolve technical design, code compliance, and constructability challenges.
- Produce accurate, organized, and comprehensive drawing packages while maintaining exceptional drafting speed and efficiency.

Project Leadership & Client Communication
- Lead architectural projects from initial consultation through design development, permitting, and construction documentation.
- Conduct site visits, existing-condition surveys, building measurements, and site mapping.
- Independently assess project requirements, identify technical challenges, and develop appropriate design solutions.
- Communicate directly and professionally with clients to review design concepts, discuss technical requirements, and provide project updates.
- Confidently lead client meetings and explain architectural drawings, design decisions, and construction considerations.
- Coordinate with contractors, engineers, consultants, and municipal building departments.
- Prepare responses to municipal permit review comments and coordinate required drawing revisions.
- Manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining project timelines, drawing quality, and production efficiency.
- Take ownership of assigned projects, proactively identify missing information, and drive projects toward completion with minimal supervision.

Technical Leadership & Quality Control As a senior member of our team, you will play an important role in maintaining and improving the firm's overall technical production standards.

Responsibilities include

- Drawing Quality Control: Oversee the technical accuracy, completeness, consistency, and quality of architectural drawings produced by the firm.
- Junior Staff Development: Mentor, train, and support junior architectural designers and drafters in improving their technical knowledge, software proficiency, accuracy, and drafting efficiency.
- Technical Review: Review drawing packages prepared by other team members, identify deficiencies, and provide clear direction for corrections and improvements.
- Production Efficiency: Help establish efficient drafting workflows, improve project turnaround times, and reduce unnecessary revisions and production bottlenecks.
- Drawing Standards: Maintain and improve AutoCAD and Revit templates, drawing conventions, construction details, schedules, file organization, and internal documentation procedures.
- Team Coordination: Assist with assigning technical drafting tasks, monitoring progress, and maintaining production schedules.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve productivity, drawing consistency, technical coordination, and overall project delivery.

The successful candidate will be expected to lead by example, demonstrating exceptional technical proficiency, productivity, professionalism, and attention to detail.

Who We're Looking For We are looking for a highly capable architectural professional who takes pride in both the quality and efficiency of their work.

The ideal candidate can meet with a client, understand their project requirements, conduct site measurements, develop an appropriate architectural solution, and efficiently produce the complete technical documentation necessary for permitting and construction.

You should be equally comfortable working independently on complex drawing packages and providing technical direction to junior members of the team.

You understand how buildings are constructed, can confidently interpret and apply the Ontario Building Code, and possess the technical judgment necessary to identify and resolve problems before they become construction or permitting issues.
