Senior Claims Adjuster - Professional Liability & Financial Lines

Monette May & Associates is hiring an experienced claims adjuster to join our professional liability and financial lines practice.

This is a senior file-handling role for someone who can independently manage complex claims from first notice through resolution. The successful candidate will work directly with insurers, insured professionals, brokers, defence counsel and experts, with substantial autonomy over their files.

Our work includes E&O; and malpractice claims involving professionals across design and construction; financial, legal and insurance services; health care; technology and media; and business and professional services. We also handle D&O;, EPLI, cyber, environmental, fidelity and crime, and complex casualty matters.

This is not a high-volume personal lines or property adjusting position.

Responsibilities

- Independently manage qualified liability and financial lines claims
- Analyze coverage and prepare clear recommendations for insurers
- Investigate liability and damages
- Retain and instruct defence counsel and experts
- Prepare substantive reports, reserves and settlement recommendations
- Participate in mediations and settlement negotiations
- Maintain direct relationships with insurer clients and insureds




- Assist with quality control and mentoring where appropriate

Qualifications

- At least five years of professional liability, financial lines or comparable complex claims experience, with ten or more years preferred
- University degree required
- Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation required
- Current Ontario independent adjuster licence, or eligibility and willingness to obtain one as a condition of employment
- Independent adjusting licences in other Canadian provinces would be an asset
- Quebec claims-adjusting authorization or eligibility would be a significant asset
- Legal, accounting, engineering or other relevant skilled training would be an asset
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex files with limited supervision
- Strong coverage analysis, investigation, reporting and negotiation skills
- Clear and practical written communication
