British Columbia, Canada (Hybrid)Compensation:
CA$117,000 - CA$161,000 / yearDescription
We are looking for a
Senior RF Engineer to join our hardware team and own the electromagnetic design, simulation, and validation of on-chip and chip-scale RF structures that deliver control signals to quantum devices operating at cryogenic temperatures. In this role, you will drive measurable improvements in
RF performance and power efficiency, taking designs from first-principles analysis through simulation, fabrication, and cryogenic measurement. This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys hands-on EM design, thrives on hard physics problems, and wants to work closely with device, fabrication, packaging, and systems teams.WHAT WE NEED YOU TO DO
Design and optimize on-chip and chip-scale RF structures, including transmission lines, resonators, and passive coupling structuresPerform full-wave EM modeling
(HFSS / CST / COMSOL or similar), including near-field analysis of fields delivered to target devicesImprove
RF power efficiency of control structures, balancing performance against fabrication constraints and yieldEvaluate alternative architectures and heat-load tradeoffs at the chip, package, and cryogenic system levelOwn simulation-to-measurement correlation, including cryogenic characterization, and iterate designs accordinglySupport impedance control, matching, and RF loss analysis at the chip and package levelLead design reviews and produce clear technical documentationWHAT YOU BRING TO OUR TEAM
M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field with ~5+ years of RF or EM design experience (or B.Sc.
with equivalent industry experience)Strong fundamentals in electromagnetics, transmission line theory, and impedance matchingDeep hands-on experience with full-wave EM simulation
(e.G., Ansys HFSS, CST, COMSOL)Experience designing
RF structures on silicon, interposers, or thin-film substratesHands-on
RF measurement and characterization
(VNA, spectrum analyzer, S-parameter de-embedding)Proven track record correlating simulation with measurement and closing the gap through design iterationScripting in
Python or MATLAB for simulation automation and data analysisStrong written and verbal communication skillsAn exceptional candidate will bring:
Experience with cryogenic or low-temperature RF systemsFamiliarity with superconducting or low-loss thin films and multilayer substratesExperience with quantum devices or spin/qubit control hardwareAwareness of microfabrication processes and design-for-manufacturabilityExposure to startup or research-driven environmentsWHY YOU SHOULD WORK WITH US
Get involved with a quantum startup company set to redefine computingWork closely with some of the brightest innovators in quantum technologiesEnjoy a fast-paced and fun environment where you can try current things while solving innovative challenges every dayInclusive company cultureCompetitive salary, benefits (including life insurance, extended health, dental, long term disability, and a flexible spending account), and potential upsideThe description above is what we think an ideal candidate would look like for this role. At Photonic, we understand that everyone has a different work and life journey. We are also committed to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
We embrace and encourage our employees’ differences, knowing that these very differences inspire innovation and build better teams.
