National Apartment Council (Derek Lobo, Founder)
This is a sales role. You'll raise money for the National Apartment Council by selling memberships to apartment developers and sponsorships to industry partners, and you'll build strong, lasting relationships with them so that together we can drive real improvements across the industry.
This is a full-time, in-office role at our Burlington office near Appleby Line and the QEW, Monday to Friday. Candidates must live near the Burlington area.
After a short intro Zoom call, selected candidates will be invited to our hiring seminar on Friday, November 13 and Monday, November 16, 2026. The hiring seminar is by invitation only.
Who Is the National Apartment Council?
The National Apartment Council represents Canada's private apartment developers. Our members include some of the largest apartment builders in the country, with more than 60,000 units built and roughly double that in the pipeline. We give developers a strong, professional voice in Ottawa, pushing for practical policy that gets more purpose-built rental housing built, faster. We also host national events that bring developers, policymakers and industry leaders into the same room.
The Council was founded by Derek Lobo, an apartment broker and entrepreneur with 35+ years in the Canadian apartment industry and the founder of Rock Advisors Inc., a Burlington-based firm that advises apartment developers across Canada. You'll work side by side with him.
Why Developers Join
Building rental housing in Canada is harder than it should be,
and apartment developers haven't had a national association speaking for them the way many other industries do. Members get:
- A united voice in Ottawa advocating for policy that makes rental housing more viable to build
- Research and public education that strengthen the case for better rental housing policy
- A seat at events alongside policymakers, industry leaders and Canada's largest apartment builders
- A network of peers facing the same challenges
When you talk to a developer, you're inviting them to help shape the rules that affect every project they build.
What You're Selling
- Memberships to apartment developers: a voice in national housing policy, access to our events, and a seat alongside some of Canada's largest builders.
- Sponsorships to industry partners (lenders, consultants, suppliers and service providers) who want to be in front of the developers building Canada's rental housing.
What You'll Do
- Get on the phones every day and build relationships with apartment developers, investors and industry partners across Canada
- Research prospects and do your own sleuthing to find the right people and understand where they might be facing challenges
- Stay persistent: keep making calls, keep following up,
and keep putting the National Apartment Council’s name in front of the right people
- Sell memberships to developers and secure sponsorships from industry partners
- Manage your own pipeline and keep every follow-up on time, every timeRepresent the National Apartment Council at our events, networking sessions and presentations
- Use AI tools to prepare, engage prospects and move faster
- Support the Founder and leadership team on whatever the organization needs that week
What You Must Bring
- Robust, proven sales experience. This role requires it.
- Confidence on the phone and in person with senior decision-makers. You're never afraid to pick up the phone.
- A natural fact-finder who is curious, detail-oriented and digs until they understand the full picture
- Impeccable follow-up. You do what you say you'll do, when you say you'll do it.
- A genuine personality. You build trust by being real, not scripted.
- Comfort working with a Founder and entrepreneur. You keep pace with a fast-moving leader and enjoy it.
- Adaptability. Priorities shift, and you shift with them.
- AI literacy. You already use AI tools comfortably in your day-to-day work.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- Enthusiasm and persistence. You don't give up after the first "no."
- Schedule flexibility for evening events and the occasional commitment outside standard hours
- You live in the Burlington or Oakville area and can be in the office five days a week
Ideal Candidate
Most importantly, you know how to sell. Experience raising money through fundraising, sponsorships, memberships or donor relations is a huge asset. Real estate knowledge is a bonu
