Shape Forma.ai’s Spark-based data platform through backend architecture, data modeling, and reliable systems development. This staff-level role carries broad technical ownership.

Reporting to the Manager of Data Platform, you will lead complex platform features and model hierarchical, graph-like, and enterprise data. The work spans backend services, SQL, Spark, observability, and production reliability. You will help translate nuanced business requirements into scalable designs while influencing architecture and product direction.

Key Responsibilities:

- Design and evolve backend services powering product workflows
- Architect hierarchical and graph-based enterprise data models
- Drive tradeoffs among extensibility, performance, and operational simplicity
- Improve observability, testing,



and production reliability
- Mentor engineers and strengthen backend engineering standards

Requirements:

- Significant experience building complex production backend systems
- Expertise in a production-grade backend language
- Robust relational schema design, data modeling, and SQL
- Background with Spark or other ETL frameworks
- Experience improving distributed or data-intensive systems
