Research detonation-engine inlets for attritable UAS swarms at the NRC, applying compressible-flow knowledge and experimental validation through full time physical presence. The appointment lasts two years. This Postdoctoral Fellowship sits within the NRC Aerospace organizational unit. The project addresses propulsion systems substantially less expensive than conventional piston or gas-turbine engines. Your work will combine computational fluid dynamics and experiments to evaluate a novel inlet architecture for detonation engines.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate inlet architectures for detonation engines
- Apply computational fluid dynamics to propulsion research
- Validate computational results experimentally
- Support feasibility demonstration for proposed engine inlets
- Work directly under an NRC researcher’s supervision
Requirements:
- PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- Recent PhD or expected completion within six months
- Two of three listed technical experience areas
- Resume, project statement, transcript, and publications list
- Eligibility for required Reliability Status verification Use propulsion, inlet, and compressible-flow expertise to investigate practical detonation-engine technology for future attritable UAS systems.
