Duration: 6-month initial contract with a possibility of extension or conversion Working model: Hybrid onsite within South Calgary (3 days onsite) Must-haves:
- 5+ years' of Java programming experience, including solid hands-on experience with Spring Boot and the design and support of REST APIs.
- Experience developing in-house, customer facing applications and enterprise or custom-built applications.
- 3+ years' of SQL and SQL Server experience
- Experience with GitHub, CI/CD, containerization, and modern deployment practices.
- Strong understanding of secure application design, authentication and authorization, API security, and common application vulnerabilities.
- Experience working in Agile/ Scrum environments. Nice-to-haves:
- Experience supporting or modernizing existing applications, including identifying technical debt and opportunities for improvement.
- Exposure to application security, authentication/authorization, and enterprise integrations (e.g., OAuth2/OIDC, identity providers, or payment integrations).
- Experience with automated testing, application monitoring, logging, and troubleshooting.
- Exposure to DevOps and deployment practices, including scripting, CI/CD, Docker, and cloud or container platforms.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development, technical documentation, and collaboration tools.

Key Responsibilities
- Leads investigation and resolution of complex escalated application incidents involving performance, memory, security, data, integration, deployment,



and infrastructure dependencies.
- Defines and promotes reusable engineering patterns and guardrails for Java and Spring Boot services, REST APIs, Vue and TypeScript frontends, SQL Server, identity, integrations, automated testing, and CI/CD.
- Designs and reviews RESTful services and APIs using Java and Spring Boot, including OAuth2/OIDC security and integrations with internal and third-party systems.
- Strengthens application monitoring and observability through effective logging, alerting, health checks, performance monitoring, and operational dashboards.
- Improves CI/CD and release practices using GitHub Actions, Docker, Tomcat, nginx, automated testing, and repeatable deployment processes.
- Mentors junior and intermediate developers, provides constructive review feedback, and helps build consistent engineering and troubleshooting practices across the team.
