Advanced Accounting Group is a relationship-focused firm valuing trust, respect, accountability, and practical thinking. We are growing and seeking a Fractional Senior Accountant, Tax and Advisory to own meaningful client work, strengthen technical judgment, and shape our service delivery. This role offers significant ownership, direct access to firm leadership, and the opportunity to make a tangible impact on our clients' success.
The position is expected to begin at approximately 20 to 35 hours per week. Hours may increase during busy periods, including personal and corporate tax season, and the role may grow into a full time position as AAG continues to expand.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare Canadian personal and corporate income tax returns.
- Prepare year-end working paper files and financial statements.
- Complete and review bookkeeping files, account reconciliations, HST filings, payroll records, and government remittances.
- Review notices of assessment and help resolve routine CRA matters.
- Communicate directly with clients to request information, answer questions, and explain accounting and tax matters clearly.
- Manage assigned files through completion and communicate early when information, judgment, or support is required.
- Identify accounting, tax, and bookkeeping issues and resolve them within established AAG policies and your level of authority.
- Maintain organized client records and complete file documentation.
- Provide practical guidance and feedback to junior accountants and subcontractors.
Independence and Review Support:
You will have the authority to resolve routine accounting and tax issues within your technical experience, AAG policies and the approved client scope. We expect you to investigate issues, form a recommendation and move work forward rather than wait for instructions at every step.
Complex tax positions, material client risk, unusual transactions,
significant judgment calls and matters outside the agreed scope must be escalated directly to the CEO with your preliminary assessment and recommended next step. Asking a thoughtful question early is viewed as good judgment, not a lack of independence.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- At least five years of relevant Canadian public accounting experience.
- Solid experience preparing Canadian personal and corporate income tax returns.
- An accounting degree or equivalent postsecondary education.
- Strong year-end working paper, financial statement, bookkeeping, HST, payroll, and CRA compliance experience.
- The ability to identify an issue, investigate it, recommend a practical response, and know when to escalate.
- Clear written and verbal communication with clients and team members.
- Strong organization, attention to detail, and follow-through across multiple deadlines.
- Experience supporting or reviewing junior team members.
- Strong QuickBooks Online experience
- Canadian tax preparation software experience.
- Comfort using AI tools responsibly for research and workflow improvement, with judgment to protect confidential information and verify technical conclusions.
- Canadian CPA designation strongly preferred, significant relevant experience considered.
Benefits:
- Own client files and see the direct impact of your work.
- Work directly with the CEO and help influence how accounting and tax work is delivered.
- Receive review support on complex, unusual, and higher-risk matters.
- Build client communication, review, and advisory skills through real exposure.
- Help junior accountants improve while developing your own leadership ability.
- Join a relationship-focused firm that values trust, respect, accountability, and practical thinking.
- Use modern accounting technology and responsible AI tools to research issues, improve workflows, and work more efficiently.
If you enjoy taking ownership, solving problems and helping business owners understand their numbers, we would like to hear from you.
