About the role:

The Assistant Grower is responsible to support the Grower with the efficient use of human, physical and financial resources in the growing program. This position is a core contributor to staff planning and budgeting and will be engaged all year in managing to those plans to ensure success.

Responsibilities:

Crop Production & Management

- Support the Head Grower and Growers in all aspects of crop production, including irrigation, fertilization, pruning, pollination, pest and disease management.
- Monitor crop health, quality, climate conditions, and computerized greenhouse systems to maximize yields and maintain production standards.
- Coordinate crop schedules, plant spacing, inventory, supplies, and production planning.
- Collect and maintain crop data, water samples, growing records, and production reports.
- Assist with greenhouse maintenance, equipment inspections, sanitation, and crop-cycle transitions.
- Participate in research and development initiatives, food safety programs, and continuous improvement projects.
- Respond to greenhouse alarms and emergencies, ensuring timely communication and resolution.





Leadership & Team Management

- Oversee and manage Crop Supervisors, providing direction, guidance, and support.
- Assign and coordinate daily tasks, supervise production teams, and ensure operational targets are achieved.
- Plan labour requirements and work schedules while monitoring productivity and labour budgets.
- Train, coach, and evaluate employees and supervisors to promote efficiency, accountability, and safe work practices.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, Food Safety requirements, WorkSafeBC regulations, and applicable government programs.
- Coordinate with Growers, Sales, Shipping, Warehouse, and Operations Management to ensure smooth daily operations.

Candidate requirements:

Education:

· Post-secondary in any of the following Forestry, Horticulture, Agriculture, or similar fields of study or equivalent

Licensing/Registrations/Certification

· Pesticide Applicator Certificate

· Forklift Certificate

· First Aid Level 2 Certificate

· Food Safety Certificate

Experience:

· 1-2 years of experience will be an asset

Other Skills, knowledge and/or abilities:

· Strong leadership experience with an operations management mindset and approach

· Possess a good understanding of boilers, irrigation systems and greenhouse equipment

· Possess good problem-solving skills and an excellent ability to prioritize work for up to 50 workers

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.00-$25.00 per hour
