Turn Your Passion for Design Into a Career in Sales
Sales & Design Consultant – Custom Furniture & Interiors
Full-Time | Calgary, Alberta
Are you a natural salesperson with a passion for interior design, furniture, and creating beautiful spaces?
Do you love working with people, bringing creative ideas to life, and turning conversations into successful sales?
At Halstead Sofa & Mattress Makers, we're looking for an energetic, motivated, and design-savvy Sales & Design Consultant to join our Calgary team.
This isn't your typical retail sales position.
You'll have the opportunity to combine your sales expertise, creativity, and design knowledge while working with homeowners, interior designers, realtors, and commercial clients.
Who We Are
Halstead Sofa & Mattress Makers is a Calgary-based, family-owned company with over 30 years of experience specializing in custom upholstery, sofas, sectionals, modular mattresses, and personalized furniture solutions.
We believe furniture should be designed around the people who use it.
From custom residential furniture to commercial projects and designer collaborations, we offer our clients something different: personalized solutions, exceptional service, and locally manufactured products.
What You'll Be Doing
Sales & Customer Experience
- Drive showroom sales by building meaningful relationships with customers.
- Guide clients through the selection and customization of sofas, sectionals, mattresses, and other furniture.
- Identify customer needs, recommend creative solutions, and confidently close sales.
- Manage customer inquiries, quotations, follow-ups, and projects from initial consultation through purchase.
- Build lasting relationships that generate repeat business and referrals.
- Work toward individual and team sales goals.
- Provide exceptional service to retail customers, interior designers, realtors, and commercial clients.
Administration & Order Management
This position involves substantial administrative responsibilities and requires exceptional attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
- Prepare and process sales orders, quotations, invoices, and customer documentation.
- Maintain accurate customer records, order details, and product specifications.
- Coordinate customer orders from initial purchase through production and delivery.
- Track order progress, timelines, and outstanding details.
- Communicate with customers regarding order updates, scheduling, and follow-ups.
- Work closely with the production and showroom teams to ensure orders are accurate and completed as expected.
- Manage emails, phone inquiries, appointments, and daily administrative tasks.
- Maintain organized digital records, files, and customer communications.
- Prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines in a busy showroom environment.
- Identify and resolve order discrepancies or outstanding administrative details.
Design & Visualization
- Help clients visualize their spaces through furniture layouts, design concepts, and presentations.
- Assist with space planning, furniture configurations, and product customization.
- Interpret measurements, drawings, and specifications.
- Assist clients with fabric, colour, configuration, and material selections.
- Collaborate with our manufacturing team to turn design concepts into finished products.
What We're Looking For
- Proven sales experience, preferably in furniture, mattresses, home furnishings, interior design, or a related industry.
- Strong administrative skills with experience managing customer orders, documentation, scheduling, and follow-ups.
- Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a busy environment.
- Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, email, spreadsheets, and digital record management.
- A strong interest in interior design with an understanding of space planning, furniture layouts, and design principles.
- A confident, outgoing personality with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong relationship-building and consultative selling abilities.
- A self-motivated approach with the ability to identify customer needs, close sales, and independently manage administrative responsibilities.
- Ability to maintain accurate records,
meet deadlines, and follow projects through from initial sale to completion.
- Confidence working with both retail customers and industry professionals.
- A team-oriented attitude and willingness to contribute to a growing business.
- A customer-first mindset with a passion for delivering exceptional experiences.
What Will Set You Apart
The following experience and skills are considered assets:

- A proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets while maintaining accurate administrative records.
- An eye for colour, fabrics, furniture styling, and interior design trends.
- Experience managing multiple customer projects simultaneously, from consultation through delivery.
Why Join Halstead?
- Work with a respected, locally owned Calgary furniture manufacturer.
- Sell customizable products rather than one-size-fits-all solutions.

- Collaborate directly with our showroom and manufacturing teams.
- Work with a diverse range of residential and commercial customers.
