EUROPEAN ALUMINUM WINDOW & DOOR SERVICE TECHNICIAN
Training Provided | $27–$35/hour to Start
BlackWater Glazing Inc. — Midland/Penetanguishene, Ontario
Are you mechanically inclined? Do you enjoy figuring out how things work, diagnosing problems and developing practical skills?
BlackWater Glazing is looking for someone with strong mechanical and technical aptitude to train as a specialized European aluminum window and door service technician.
You don't need window and door experience. We're more interested in finding someone who learns quickly, thinks mechanically and takes pride in becoming genuinely good at what they do.
This isn't a general labour position. We're looking for someone who wants to develop into an independent technician, capable of diagnosing problems, completing repairs and adjustments, and eventually managing service work with technical support available when needed.
THE OPPORTUNITY
BlackWater specializes in the diagnosis, service and repair of European aluminum window and door systems. These products are considerably different from conventional North American windows and doors, requiring specialized knowledge and techniques.
You'll work alongside an experienced technician, learning how these systems operate, how to identify problems and how to repair and adjust them correctly.
We believe in teaching proven methods first, then building the understanding and confidence to troubleshoot independently. We value people who ask questions, understand why things work and can apply what they've learned to unfamiliar situations.
As your abilities develop, so will your responsibilities. Our objective is to develop a capable, independent specialist—not someone who spends their career assisting another technician.
Training includes hands-on instruction, specialized manufacturer and product training, and potential opportunities to train in Europe.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
You might currently work in automotive repair, equipment maintenance, fabrication, millwright work,
electrical or mechanical trades, fine carpentry, or another hands-on technical field.
You might also be earlier in your career, with limited experience but exceptional mechanical aptitude.
What's significant to us is that you:
- Enjoy understanding how mechanical systems operate.
- Learn by watching, asking questions and doing.
- Remember what you've learned and apply it consistently.
- Have good problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Are comfortable with technology, tools and unfamiliar equipment.
- Take pride in doing things properly.
- Can work independently while recognizing when to ask for guidance.
- Enjoy physical work, changing environments and being part of a small team.
- Want to develop specialized skills and take on greater responsibility.
Formal education is less important to us than demonstrated ability, initiative and a willingness to learn.
If you already have experience with European aluminum window and door systems, whether acquired in Canada or internationally, we'd especially like to hear from you.
WHAT THE WORK LOOKS LIKE
Our day normally starts around 6:00 AM at our shop in the Midland/Penetanguishene area.
Our field crews generally work 10–12-hour days over approximately four days per week. Fridays are normally off, making three-day weekends common.
The work includes diagnosing mechanical problems, adjusting and repairing windows and doors, handling components and glass, and occasionally assisting with installations of large European aluminum systems.
Most work is within driving distance of our shop.
Extended Canadian travel currently occurs about once per month or less, with U.S. travel approximately twice per year or less. European manufacturer training opportunities may also be available.
You'll work in different environments, encounter different technical challenges and continue learning as your experience grows.
REQUIREMENTS
You must:
- Be able to reliably report to our Midland/Penetanguishene shop for early starts.
- Have a valid driver's licence and be eligible to drive a company vehicle.
- Be eligible for occasional U.S. and international business travel.
- Be physically capable of hands-on service work involving windows, doors, tools and glass.
- Be comfortable with long workdays and occasional overnight travel.
Construction safety certifications such as WHMIS, Working at Heights and elevated work platform training are assets. Required training and refreshers can be provided.
COMPENSATION & ADVANCEMENT
Starting wage: $27–$35 per hour, depending on demonstrated ability and relevant experience.
We place greater value on what someone can do than how many years they've been doing it.
As you develop the skills to diagnose problems, complete repairs efficiently and manage service work independently, you'll have opportunities to increase both your responsibility and compensation.
Our goal is to develop highly capable specialists, and we recognize the value of people who achieve that level of expertise.
INTERESTED?
If you're the person others turn to when something mechanical isn't working, if you enjoy figuring things out, or if you're looking for a career that rewards developing real technical ability, we'd like to hear from you.
Tell us a little about your background, what you've worked on and why this opportunity interests you.
