Barrie

You can fit it. You can weld it. You enjoy seeing the whole build come together.

You know how to take a drawing, lay out the work, and turn loose parts into an accurate, well-built assembly. You’re confident in both your fitting and welding skills, and you take pride in work that looks good and meets the requirements.

You also enjoy variety. You’re comfortable picking up a wrench, assembling equipment, moving materials, or helping get a finished order ready to ship. You like using your head as much as your hands, and you get satisfaction from solving practical problems and seeing a job through.

If that sounds like you, we’d like to talk.

The opportunity

At DLJ Industries in Barrie, you’ll help build industrial equipment, engineered products, structural weldments, and fabricated assemblies—for our own product lines and for other manufacturers.

We’re a smaller, growing shop where your contribution is visible and everyone plays a part in getting the work done. You’ll work closely with the team, have room to use your experience, and take on a variety of builds.

Strong fitting and welding skills are the foundation of this position. We also need an all-around shop person with mechanical aptitude and a willingness to contribute across the operation.

Some days will be focused on fitting and welding. Others will include mechanical assembly, material preparation, forklift operation, shipping and receiving, or general shop work. Those responsibilities are a regular part of the role, and their balance will change with the work coming through the shop.

What you’ll do

- Fit and weld: Independently lay out, fit, tack, and weld steel components, structural weldments, and custom assemblies.

- Work from drawings: Interpret fabrication drawings, weld symbols, dimensions, and work instructions. Raise questions when something doesn’t add up.
- Check your work: Verify dimensions, alignment, squareness, and weld quality throughout the build. Follow applicable welding procedures and quality requirements.
- Build and assemble: Fit, align, and fasten mechanical components, equipment, and finished assemblies.
- Prepare materials: Measure, cut, drill, grind, and finish components using appropriate shop equipment and tools.
- Handle materials: Operate forklifts and material-handling equipment safely within your training and authorization.
- Support shipping and receiving: Check incoming materials, organize components, prepare shipments, and assist with loading and unloading.
- Keep the shop moving: Help with housekeeping, routine equipment care, and other shop duties. Communicate shortages or problems early.

What you bring

- At least five years of relevant fitting and welding experience.
- Strong ability in both fitting and welding, including independently building assemblies from drawings.
- Practical knowledge of weld symbols, measurement, fit-up, and fabrication methods.
- Mechanical aptitude and confidence working with tools, components, and equipment.

- Attention to detail and a commitment to safe, consistent workmanship.
- Reliability, clear communication, and the ability to work independently and alongside others.
- Flexibility to move between skilled fabrication, assembly, and general shop responsibilities.

Additional assets:

- Current CWB welding qualifications.
- Experience with mechanical or equipment assembly.
- Forklift operating experience and current training.
- Experience with structural steel, custom equipment, or varied fabrication projects.

Why this role may suit you

You want work that makes use of your range of skills. You enjoy having responsibility for your part of a build and working with people who count on one another.

Here, you’ll have the chance to contribute ideas, work on different products and equipment, and help shape how a growing shop gets things done. Your accuracy, workmanship, and initiative will make a direct difference.

Interested? Tell us what you’ve built.

Submit your résumé with a short description of your fitting, welding, and assembly experience. Include the welding processes you’re comfortable with and any current CWB qualifications or forklift training.

This posting is for an existing vacancy. Accommodations are available on request throughout the recruitment process.
