Personal Support Worker - Don Mills, Toronto - CAD$567.00/week
Description
About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for an elderly woman experiencing recent health decline. Over the past few months, she has lost approximately 30 pounds due to poor eating habits and has become largely sedentary, leading to significant weakness in her legs. She experiences depression, loneliness, and stubbornness that affects her decision-making. She has poor hearing and vision, which contributes to unsteadiness on her feet. She had a fall approximately two months ago. The family is hoping that consistent care, proper nutrition, and hydration will help improve her cognitive function and overall well-being. This is her first time receiving professional care.
Responsibilities:
Provide companionship and emotional support to combat loneliness and depression
Prepare nutritious meals and ensure adequate food and fluid intake throughout visits
Assist with mobility support, including walking and transferring with a walker
Perform light housekeeping tasks including cleaning and laundry
Encourage the client to wear hearing aids and glasses as needed
Help rearrange furniture to accommodate safe walker use throughout the small condominium
Provide occasional transportation for errands or appointments
Build trust and rapport with a client who may initially be resistant to care
Monitor and report any changes in condition to family members
What We're Looking For:
Experience supporting seniors with mobility challenges and walker use
Patient, calm demeanor with ability to work with resistant or stubborn clients
Solid interpersonal skills to build trust and comfort
Ability to take initiative and bring positive energy
Reliable, consistent,
and excellent communication with family
Experience with clients experiencing depression or cognitive changes preferred

Additional Considerations
Client's mother is experiencing depression, recent weight loss (30 lbs), poor eating and hydration habits, and cognitive changes likely related to malnutrition. She is very stubborn and resistant to care, having previously fired physiotherapists and refused to attend senior exercise classes. She has poor hearing and vision (wears glasses regularly but resists using hearing aids). She fell approximately 2-3 months ago with minor injury. She uses a walker and is unsteady on her feet. Her small condominium requires furniture rearrangement to accommodate walker use. Family hopes regular eating, hydration, and companionship will improve her mental state and cooperation. This is her first time receiving professional care. Client's son is a crisis responder with unpredictable availability (works 10am-10pm shifts).
