Apply microbiology skills as a part-time Laboratory Assistant with Shared Hospital Laboratory in Ontario. Work across days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Reporting to the Microbiology Operations Manager, you will support specimen receiving within SHL’s shared hospital laboratory. The position includes planting specimens to appropriate media, answering results requests, and assisting senior technologists with general microbiology duties. SHL is owned and operated by Scarborough Health Network, North York General Hospital, Michael Garron Hospital, and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.
Key Responsibilities: Perform duties in the microbiology specimen receiving area
Plant all specimens to appropriate media
Answer requests for laboratory results




Assist the Senior Technologist with general duties
Support the Microbiology Operations Manager with department duties
Requirements: Michener Institute Laboratory Assistant Certificate or equivalent
Career Canada Certificate or OSMT qualification
Preferred six months of bacteriology experience
Knowledge of media and incubation times preferred
Demonstrated problem-solving and organizational skills
Use specimen receiving, microbiology, and communication skills while supporting effective laboratory services across Shared Hospital Laboratory.
