CONTROLLER SUCCESSION OPPORTUNITY

Senior Accountant | Windsor, Ontario

A Career Opportunity with a Clear Path to Financial Leadership

Trovo Resources is partnering with a large, well-established automotive dealership in Windsor to recruit a Senior Accountant with the ambition and capability to grow into a senior financial leadership role.

This is more than a traditional Senior Accountant position. Working closely with the dealership's Controller and President, you will gain valuable exposure to all aspects of dealership operations while progressively expanding your responsibilities across financial reporting, business analysis, financial controls, and team leadership.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop a comprehensive understanding of dealership operations and build the skills required to eventually assume the Controller role. The anticipated succession timeline is approximately two to three years, depending on individual performance, demonstrated capabilities, and business needs.

THE ROLE

As Senior Accountant, you will play an important role in the dealership's accounting and financial operations while working alongside experienced financial leadership. Your responsibilities will evolve as you develop your knowledge of the business, with increasing involvement in financial management, operational decision-making, and leadership.

Key Responsibilities

- Oversee and support day-to-day accounting activities, including vehicle and parts inventory, accounts payable and receivable, banking, and general ledger reconciliations.
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules while progressively assuming greater ownership of the monthly financial close.
- Prepare financial statements, departmental reporting, and financial analysis to support business decisions.
- Develop a thorough understanding of dealership accounting, including vehicle sales, floorplan financing, manufacturer incentives, service operations, and warranty transactions.
- Analyze departmental performance, profitability, inventory levels, operating expenses, and key financial indicators.
- Participate in budgeting, forecasting,

cash flow planning, and working capital management.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen internal controls, streamline accounting processes, and improve operational efficiencies.
- Assist with year-end financial reporting, external audits, and tax compliance requirements.
- Work collaboratively with department managers to understand business performance and provide financial insight.
- Gradually assume greater responsibility for mentoring, developing, and leading members of the accounting team.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

We are looking for an accounting professional who combines strong technical accounting capabilities with the initiative, curiosity, and leadership potential to take the next step in their career.

Qualifications and Experience

- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of three years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong technical knowledge of general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to work collaboratively across different areas of the business.
- Demonstrated initiative, sound professional judgment, and the ability to work independently.
- CPA designation or progress toward a CPA designation would be an asset.
- Previous automotive dealership experience, familiarity with dealership management systems, and experience mentoring or supervising accounting staff would also be considered assets.

Equally important is the desire to learn the business beyond the numbers,

build relationships across the organization, and develop into a trusted financial leader.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This is an opportunity to join an established and successful automotive dealership where you can build a long-term career and make a meaningful contribution to the business.

You will work directly with experienced financial leadership, gain exposure to the operational side of the dealership, and progressively take on greater responsibility as your knowledge and capabilities develop.

For an ambitious accounting professional looking beyond their next job title, this opportunity offers something particularly valuable: a defined succession path, meaningful mentorship, and the opportunity to develop into the dealership's next Controller.
