About Treehouse Daycare

The Society for Kid’s Care Elk Valley is a non-profit organization operating Treehouse Daycare in Sparwood, BC. We are committed to providing quality childcare and supporting children and families in our community. Located in the beautiful Elk Valley, Sparwood offers a welcoming community, stunning mountain scenery and year-round outdoor recreation.

About the Role

We are seeking an organized, capable and people-focused Temporary Daycare Manager to lead Treehouse Daycare during a maternity leave of approximately 10–12 months. Reporting to the Society for Kid’s Care Board of Directors, the Daycare Manager is responsible for the successful day-to-day operation of the centre. Working closely with the Office Manager and under the strategic direction of the Board, you will help ensure high-quality care, effective staff leadership, sound administration and compliance with applicable BC childcare licensing requirements.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced childcare professional, team leader or candidate with relevant transferable management skills who is ready to take on a meaningful leadership role in a community-based organization.

Transition and Support

You will be supported in your transition into the role, with the Society for Kid’s Care Board of Directors and the Daycare Supervisor available to assist with orientation, training and familiarization with the centre’s operations, policies and procedures. This collaborative approach will help set you up for success and support continuity of care for children, families and staff throughout the temporary appointment.

Key Responsibilities

Day-to-day operations: Coordinate staffing and child attendance schedules, maintain required staff-to-child ratios, support appropriate supervision and respond to operational needs.

Staff leadership: Support recruitment, hiring, onboarding, scheduling, performance management, team meetings and professional development.

Licensing and compliance: Maintain compliance with applicable BC childcare licensing requirements, organizational policies, health and safety standards, confidentiality and incident-reporting procedures.

Family and community relationships: Build positive relationships with children, families, staff and community partners, providing timely, professional and confidential communication.

Administration and finances: Monitor the operating budget, coordinate purchasing and payroll submissions, maintain accurate records and oversee enrolment and registration.

Communication and reporting: Prepare management reports, coordinate family newsletters and centre communications, and collaborate with the Board, Office Manager and community support services.

Program support: Help maintain a positive, inclusive and high-quality childcare environment.

Other duties: Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience

We are looking for someone who demonstrates integrity, sound judgment, initiative and a genuine commitment to supporting children, families and staff. The successful candidate will ideally have:

Previous leadership, supervisory, team-lead or program-coordination experience.

Strong communication, organizational, relationship-building and problem-solving skills.

The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and make sound operational decisions.

Experience with staff coordination, administration, record keeping, scheduling or budgeting.

A professional approach to confidentiality, accountability and teamwork.

The following are considered assets:

An Early Childhood Education Assistant (ECEA) certificate and licence to practise from the BC Early Childhood Educator Registry.

Experience in a licensed childcare setting.

First Aid/CPR-C certification. Training may be supported if needed.

FoodSafe certification.

Additional childcare-related courses, workshops or professional development.

A satisfactory criminal record check and other documentation required for the position will be necessary. The successful candidate must meet all applicable licensing and qualification requirements for the role.

We welcome applications from candidates with transferable leadership and operational experience. An ECE or ECEA credential is an asset but is not a prerequisite for consideration,

subject to applicable licensing requirements.

We offer competitive compensation based on relevant experience and qualifications, including:

Base wage starting at $27.00 per hour: A higher rate may be considered for candidates with additional relevant experience, qualifications and leadership capability.
