Ironworker and SMAW Welder Apprentices

2nd- and 3rd-Year Apprentices | Full-Time | Edmonton and Surrounding Area

Prime Steel is seeking motivated 2nd- and 3rd-year Ironworker and SMAW Welder Apprentices to join our commercial structural steel team.

Founded in 2016, Prime Steel has built a strong reputation for delivering safe, dependable and high-quality steel erection services throughout Edmonton and the surrounding area. We work on a variety of commercial, industrial and institutional projects and are looking for apprentices who take pride in their trade and want to continue developing their skills.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain well-rounded field experience while working alongside knowledgeable journeypersons and experienced supervision.

Responsibilities

Depending on your experience and apprenticeship stream, your responsibilities may include:

- Structural steel erection
- Connecting, bolting and plumbing steel
- SMAW field welding
- Installing joists, metal deck, stairs, railings and miscellaneous metals
- Reading erection drawings and following installation sequences
- Rigging, hoisting and material handling
- Operating aerial work platforms and construction equipment
- Maintaining a safe, organized and productive work area
- Working effectively with supervisors and other crew members

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who:

- Are registered 2nd- or 3rd-year Ironworker or Welder Apprentices
- Have experience in commercial structural steel construction
- Are dependable, safety-conscious and committed to quality work
- Are comfortable working at heights and in outdoor conditions
- Can follow direction and work effectively as part of a crew




- Are physically capable of performing the requirements of the trade
- Have reliable transportation to jobsites in Edmonton and the surrounding area
- Are interested in developing their skills and advancing within the company

Valid CWB SMAW qualifications and current construction safety certifications are considered strong assets.
