Simone Structures is looking for a mechanically minded, detail-oriented Mechanical Technician to join our team.
This is a dynamic, hybrid role. While a significant portion of your time will be spent in our shop disassembling, inspecting, and rebuilding critical drive components (planetary gearboxes, winches, and slew units), you will also be deployed to the field. You will play a hands-on role in the maintenance, repair, erection, and dismantling of our tower crane fleet.
If you are a motivated person who loves precision mechanical work but doesn't want to be chained to a workbench every day, this role offers the perfect balance of shop rebuilds and heavy-iron field work.
Key Responsibilities
Shop & Mechanical Rebuilds:
- Disassembly & Assembly: Tear down, clean, inspect, and rebuild mechanical drive units, multi-stage gearboxes, and winch drums.
- Precision Work: Learn to accurately set bearing preloads, end-play, and gear backlash using dial indicators, calipers, and micrometers.
- Testing: Run no-load bench tests on completed units, monitor temperatures, and check for leaks before site deployment.
Field Operations & Rigging:
- Erection & Dismantle: Actively assist field crews with the assembly, and dismantling of tower cranes on active construction sites.
- Field Maintenance & Repair: Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot mechanical/hydraulic faults, and repair tower cranes while they are erected on-site.
- Rigging & Hoisting: Perform safe and accurate rigging duties for crane components during transport and assembly.
- Crane Operation: Occasionally operate yard or site cranes for testing, load management, and equipment mobilization.
What We Are Looking For
- Trade Background: Industrial Mechanics (Millwright), Heavy Duty Equipment Technician, or Automotive / Heavy Equipment Service.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Practical experience tearing down and rebuilding mechanical systems (transmissions, differentials, gearboxes, or engines) and comfort using precision measuring tools.
- Comfort at Heights: This role requires working on erected tower cranes. You must be physically fit, comfortable working at significant heights, and capable of working in various weather conditions.
- Travel Flexibility: Willingness to travel for out-of-town work assignments and adapt to the adaptable schedules required during crane erections and dismantles.
- Safety First: Solid grasp of rigging safety, fall protection, and job-site hazard awareness.
Assets (Helpful, but Not Required)
- Valid Rigging or Crane Operations certifications.
- Fall Protection and Aerial Work Platform (AWP) tickets.
- Previous experience operating cranes (mobile, rough terrain, or tower) or working directly with crane erection crews.
- Class 1 or 3 Driver’s License with Air Brakes.
What We Offer
- Competitive hourly wages with overtime opportunities.
- Travel premiums and per diems for out-of-town assignments.
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits.
- A diverse work environment splitting time between a clean, fully equipped shop and active construction sites.
- Mentorship from seasoned crane technicians and support for ongoing safety/trade training.
Pay: $32.00-$48.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
Benefits:
- Dental care
- Extended health care
- Vision care
Work Location: In person
