Toronto

Full-time, Permanent · Liberty Village, Toronto · In person

Hey, You Yes, You at the Back.

You know that restaurant where people happily wait two hours on a Sunday for a stack of pancakes? That’s us.

SCHOOL is a Liberty Village favourite at 70 Fraser Avenue, open seven days a week for weekday lunch and weekend brunch under one simple motto: A+ Food. No Homework. We’re regularly named one of Toronto’s best brunch spots, and we also host private events, from corporate parties to weddings.

Now we’re looking for the person who’ll take all of that and make it even louder.

The Assignment

As Restaurant Operations Manager, you’re the hands‑on leader of SCHOOL and the person most responsible for how it feels, functions, and performs every day. You’ll keep our quirky, slightly edgy personality alive while running a restaurant that’s as profitable as it is fun.

Your Timetable

Period 1: Running the Place

- Own day‑to‑day operations and make sure every plate, pour, and guest moment is excellent, consistently.
- Set and uphold standards for service, cleanliness, opening and closing, reservations, and guest recovery.
- Partner with kitchen leadership so front and back of house run as one team, and fix problems as they come up.
- Keep us compliant with health, safety, liquor, and employment requirements, and lead visibly from the floor.

Period 2: People and Culture

- Hire, onboard, train, and coach the team, and develop supervisors into future leaders.
- Build a team and service culture that reflect SCHOOL’s personality, with clear expectations and performance conversations (including discipline) when needed.
- Manage schedules and staffing to business needs and approved labour targets.

Period 3:

Art Class (Brand, Experience and Vision)

- Protect and evolve the SCHOOL brand so the space, music, service, and every guest interaction feel unmistakably SCHOOL.
- Dream up events, promotions, and menu experiences that drive traffic and get people talking online.
- Grow our private events business, from full restaurant buyouts to weddings, brand launches, and corporate parties.
- Work with the owners on bigger creative and strategic initiatives.

Prerequisites (What You’ll Bring)

- 5+ years of restaurant management experience, ideally in a high-volume, full-service environment.
- A track record of running a profitable operation: labour, cost of goods, P&L; and the numbers that matter.
- Experience hiring, coaching and leading front‑of‑house teams, and building strong working relationships with the kitchen.
- Working knowledge of Ontario health, safety, liquor and employment standards.
- Hands‑on experience with reservation (such as Resy), POS, and scheduling platforms.
- Current Smart Serve certification and a valid Food Handler certificate.
- Creative instincts and a genuine love of hospitality, events and doing things differently.
- Calm under pressure (see: Sunday brunch rush).
- Excellent communication skills and a sense of humour.
- Availability for weekends and holidays,

plus the occasional evening for private events, because that’s when the magic happens.

Extra Credit

- Experience launching events, activations or social media‑driven promotions.
- A personal style that matches our playful, slightly irreverent vibe.

Hours of Work

Approximately 45 hours per week, though hours will vary with the seasons (hello, patio season) and the needs of the business. You’ll be expected on site for private events and whenever the unexpected happens (because in a restaurant, it always does).

Restaurant hours: Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Your Report Card (Compensation)

$65,000 to $70,000 per year, commensurate with experience, plus advantages and staff meals.

The salary range represents the expected annual base salary for this role. Final offers will be determined based on each candidate’s qualifications, relevant experience, internal equity and the needs of the role. We encourage all qualified candidates to apply.

Everyone Belongs at SCHOOL

We value unique perspectives and lived experiences on our team.
