- Provide project-level analysis to the Divisional Finance lead to support financial statement estimates.
- Deliver the project accounting components of month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close, including accruals, job cost reconciliations, and balance sheet support.
- Contribute to the annual budget and periodic reforecasts, and explain variances between actual, forecast, and budgeted results to the Divisional Finance lead.
- Verify change orders, extra work, and claims from notice through resolution so that approved and pending amounts are reflected appropriately in revenue and forecasts.
- Reconcile costs and billings by contract item, highlighting discrepancies and missed billings.
- Review the allocation of self-performed labour, equipment,
and material costs to projects for accuracy and consistency.
- Turn project financials into clear, timely reporting for project managers, operations leaders, and executives, proactively flagging margin fade, cost overruns, and cash risk.
- Maintain accurate project financial data in Oracle, including project setup, budgets, and contract structure, and work with operations and systems teams to improve data quality.
- Apply internal controls over project revenue, cost, and billing, and prepare supporting schedules for year-end and partner reporting, as required.
- Identify opportunities to standardize and streamline project accounting processes.
Qualifications
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- CPA designation, completed or in progress, is considered an asset.
- Minimum 4 years of project accounting experience, preferably with a contractor in heavy civil, infrastructure, or other construction sectors.
- Working knowledge of percentage-of-completion revenue recognition and contract cost forecasting.
- Hands-on experience with month-end and year-end close, including accruals, reconciliations, and management reporting.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis, including building financial tools.
