About the Client:

We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for a woman with dementia living in a long-term care facility in Whitby. While the facility manages all medical and dietary needs, she would benefit greatly from additional one-on-one companionship and engagement that the home cannot provide. She is hard of hearing and requires patience and clear communication. This role is about enriching her daily life through meaningful activities and personal attention.

Responsibilities:

- Take her for walks around the facility or grounds
- Lead basic stretching and movement activities to keep her active
- Engage in conversations, puzzles, and other cognitive activities
- Place her hearing aids in upon arrival and remove them at the end of visits, returning them to the charging station
- Ensure she is dressed appropriately for activities and weather
- Check that dirty laundry is placed in the laundry basket rather than hung back in the closet
- Use directive language rather than asking questions, as she may be resistant or uncertain when given choices
- Speak clearly, face her directly when talking, and speak at an appropriate volume to accommodate her hearing loss

What We’re Looking For:

- Experience working with individuals with dementia




- Patience and understanding when working with seniors with cognitive decline
- Ability to communicate clearly in English
- Calm and patient demeanor
- Skills in providing memory prompts and gentle redirection
- Ability to take initiative and lead activities
- Experience in long‑term care settings is a plus
- Understanding that building familiarity and trust takes time

Schedule:

Monday and Thursday mornings, a few hours per visit. Consistency is key to help build familiarity and comfort.

Additional Considerations
