This role supports a busy steel distribution yard by locating and preparing steel orders and assisting forklift operators with picking and loading materials. You will start as a groundperson (general laborer), learning how to identify and organize steel products, read pick sheets, and help coordinate shipments. Once fully trained and competent in the groundperson role, you will receive training on large forklifts and have the opportunity to move into equipment operation and other areas of the warehouse. Responsibilities Locate steel tube structures and I-beams in the yard according to pick sheets and order requirements. Assist forklift operators with picking, moving, and loading steel orders safely and efficiently. Read and interpret pick sheets and prepare basic shipping documents to support accurate order fulfillment. Communicate professionally with truck drivers and yard staff to coordinate loading and unloading activities. Work outdoors in all weather conditions and move materials as needed across the yard and warehouse areas. Support inventory activities by helping to keep the yard organized and steel products properly staged. Follow all safety procedures and use proper rigging techniques when working around heavy steel and equipment. Use basic tools and equipment, including saws, as trained, to assist with cutting and preparing steel orders. Maintain a clean and orderly work area and report any hazards or equipment issues promptly. Stay until work is complete when overtime is required to finish orders and meet customer timelines. Essential Skills At least 6 months of experience in general labor or a similar hands-on role, including entry-level experience. Ability to work outside year-round in varying weather conditions while performing physical labor.

Ability to read, write, and speak English to understand pick sheets, safety instructions, and shipping documents. Reliable transportation to consistently arrive on time for a day shift schedule. Comfort working in a warehouse and yard workplace around heavy steel and large material-handling equipment. Basic experience with order picking, packing, or inventory support in an industrial or warehouse setting. Safety-conscious mindset and willingness to follow all safety rules and guidelines. Ability to perform physical tasks such as walking the yard, lifting, moving materials, and standing for extended periods. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience using a saw or general knowledge of cutting with a chop saw is an asset but not required. Experience operating large forklifts, including 30,000 lb units, or combi-lift equipment is an asset but not required. Background in construction, rigging, or general labor in an industrial setting is beneficial. Willingness to learn forklift operation, saw room tasks, and broader warehouse responsibilities over time. Interest in long-term growth into forklift operator, saw room, warehouse, or supervisory roles. Why Work Here? You join a close-knit, family-oriented environment where team members support one another and safety comes first. The workplace offers full benefits, including eligibility after a short waiting period,

long-term disability coverage, and RRSP matching to help you build financial security. You can enjoy occasional lunches, holiday bonuses, and a culture that recognizes dedication and promotes from within. With clear paths for growth, wage progression tied to tenure, and the opportunity to develop new skills on forklifts and in the warehouse, you can build a stable, long-term career in a supportive setting. Work Environment You work in a steel distribution yard and warehouse, spending much of your time outdoors in all weather conditions. The team is small, with about five people on site, and once you are trained you often work independently or with one other person, with help available whenever needed. Safety is a top priority due to the presence of heavy steel and large equipment, and all employees are expected to follow strict safety procedures. The dress code includes steel-toed boots and long pants to ensure proper protection. The role follows a day shift schedule from Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, with overtime available when there is additional work to complete. As you progress, you may work with large forklifts, saws, and other material-handling equipment in both the yard and warehouse areas.
