Job title: Chef (NOC 62200)

Terms of employment: Permanent & Full time Position

Location: 1595 Bedford Highway suite 197, Bedford, NS B4A 3Y4

Start date: As soon as possible

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

- Create new recipes
- Check the quality of raw and cooked products
- Check the quantity and quality of received products
- Season and cook food according to recipes or personal judgment and experience
- Supervise and coordinate activities of cooks and workers engaged in food preparation
- Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes or personal judgment, using various kitchen utensils and equipment
- Prepare and cook complete meals or individual dishes and foods such as sauces, soups, salads, vegetables and meat, poultry and fish dishes
- Determine how food should be presented, and create decorative food displays
- Instruct cooks and other workers in the preparation, cooking, garnishing, and presentation of food.
- May recruit and hire staff
- Prepare budgets and payrolls
- Schedule staff
- Train staff in preparation, cooking and handling of food
- Maintain sanitation, health, and safety standards in work areas
- Create high quality sushi including cooking rice, rolling sushi, and cutting rolls
- Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies and equipment
- Arrange for equipment purchases and repairs




- Estimate expected food consumption; then requisition or purchase supplies, or procure food from storage.

Academic, Training and Experience Qualifications:

- Completion of secondary school is usually required
- Several years of experience in commercial food preparation

Computer and technology knowledge:

- Microsoft Access or Claris Filemaker pro

Work conditions and physical capabilities:

- Fast paced setting, Work under pressure, Tight deadlines, Handling heavy loads, Physically demanding, Combination of sitting, standing and walking, Standing for extended period of time, Attention to details, bending, couching, kneeling

Wage:

- Salary: $31.96 ~ $33.00 per hour for 30 hours a week at 52 weeks a year

Benefits:

- Vacation pay: 4% remuneration of total gross salary
