Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated, results-driven Business Development Manager to lead the growth of our third-party logistics (3PL) warehousing business, with a particular focus on freezer storage and temperature-controlled logistics.
The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, prospecting, and securing new customers requiring outsourced frozen storage, warehousing, inventory management, and related logistics services.
This is a business development-focused position requiring someone who can independently identify market opportunities, establish relationships with prospective customers, develop sales pipelines, negotiate commercial agreements, and convert opportunities into long-term customer relationships.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong sales and relationship-building skills who understands the importance of developing recurring revenue through long-term warehousing and logistics contracts.
Key Responsibilities
1. Business Development & Customer Acquisition
- Proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities for freezer storage and 3PL warehousing services.
- Develop a targeted list of prospective customers across relevant industries, including food processing, seafood, meat and poultry, frozen food distribution, agriculture, grocery, food manufacturing, and wholesale distribution.
- Conduct outbound sales activities, including cold calling, email campaigns, networking, industry events, and direct customer outreach.
- Identify companies with existing freezer storage requirements that may benefit from outsourcing their warehousing operations.
- Develop relationships with business owners, purchasing managers, supply chain directors, operations managers, and logistics decision-makers.
- Convert prospective customers into contracted warehousing and logistics clients.
2. Sales Strategy & Pipeline Management
- Develop and maintain a structured sales pipeline of prospective customers and business opportunities.
- Establish sales targets and business development strategies to achieve revenue and customer acquisition objectives.
- Prepare customer proposals, pricing estimates, and service agreements in collaboration with management.
- Follow up consistently with prospective customers to advance opportunities and close sales.
- Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, sales activities, opportunities, and forecasts.
- Provide regular sales pipeline and business development reports to management.
3. Market Research & Opportunity Identification
- Research the regional and national market for businesses requiring frozen storage and third-party logistics services.
- Identify companies that may be experiencing capacity constraints, seasonal storage requirements, or opportunities to outsource their warehouse operations.
- Monitor competitor offerings, market pricing, and industry trends.
- Identify opportunities to develop additional services, including order fulfillment, inventory management, cross-docking, transportation coordination, and distribution services.
- Develop strategic relationships with transportation companies, freight brokers, food distributors, and other complementary service providers.
4. Customer Relationship Management
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing customers to encourage long-term retention and additional business.
- Identify opportunities to expand existing customer accounts through increased storage volumes and additional services.
- Work closely with warehouse operations to ensure customer requirements can be accommodated.
- Act as the primary commercial contact during the customer acquisition and onboarding process.
- Maintain regular communication with customers to identify changing storage and logistics requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
- 3–5 years of experience in business development, B2B sales, account management, or commercial sales.
- Experience in the logistics, transportation, warehousing, food distribution, food processing, or cold-storage industries would be a significant asset.
- Demonstrated ability to generate new business through proactive prospecting and outbound sales activities.
- Experience developing sales pipelines and converting prospects into long-term commercial customers.
- Strong negotiation, presentation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to independently research markets, identify opportunities, and develop new customer relationships.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM or sales pipeline management software.
