OVERVIEW The purpose of Hawthorne Meadows Nursery School Inc. is to provide programming, which will benefit the child, the parent and the community. The growth and development of the whole child is our primary aim. HMNS’s philosophy is to enable children to participate in a program designed to meet each child’s individual needs as well as their social, physical, emotional and cognitive development.

The staff encourages and promotes language development throughout the program. Our programs support equality, freedom of access to community services and the right to maintain one’s cultural heritage.

POSITION SUMMARY:

When the permanent staff are away, casual supply staff are called to replace them. Hours will vary.

Along with the other team members, plans and carries out age-appropriate programs in accordance with Early Learning for Every Child Today (ELECT) curriculum and How Does Learning Happen guidelines to enhance the children’s cognitive, physical, social and emotional development according to the Child Care Early Years’ Act and the program criteria. The incumbent will incorporate learning experiences into the program designed to meet the individual needs of the children and where possible therapeutic programs as required, such as speech therapy, physiotherapy, etc.

Provide a physically safe and emotionally supportive environment showing sensitivity to the individual needs of the children in all aspects of their development.

Uphold the philosophy of the program and The Ottawa-Carleton Head start Association for Preschools.

Reporting to the Program Coordinator, responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to:

1. Giving first priority to the child’s needs.





- Be accepting of all children without regard to race, creed, religion, socio-economic status.

2. Ensuring age appropriate programming that enhances the children’s cognitive, physical, social and emotional development is provided.

- Using ELECT and How Does Learning Happen, establishes and carries out a schedule that incorporates child-directed activities, as well as care routines and transitions keeping in mind the requirements of the agency’s Policies and Procedures and the Child Care Early Years Act.

3. Maintaining documentation: Completes necessary documentation, charts and authorizations in a timely manner.

4. Monitoring all areas frequented by the children for safety, hygienic conditions including but not limited to playrooms, washrooms, and playgrounds.

5. Maintaining a neat, organized playroom that is attractive to the Children.

6. Ensuring the philosophy of Hawthorne Meadows Nursery School Inc. is respected.

Participates in ongoing professional development and attends/maintains all mandatory training.

Skills and Education

- Preferred experience in related field
- Current Standard First Aid, CPR Level "C"
- Criminal Reference Check for the Vulnerable Sector not more than 6 months old.

- Current immunization
- High level of interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong programming skills and good knowledge of child development
- Ability to work in a team setting
- Self-motivating and solid leadership skills
- Organized; time management skills.

- ECE an asset

- Bilingualism an asset

Salary and Benefits:

- $20.01 hour plus $2 /hr WEG if funding is available.
