About Ottawa General Contractors (OGC)

Winners of Best Places to Work 2 years in a row!

Ottawa General Contractors (OGC) is Ottawa’s premier design-build general contractor, specializing in complete home renovations, major additions, and custom home builds. Operating in a fast-paced, highly competitive environment, our primary mission is to deliver an unparalleled renovation experience to our clients—from 3D concept designs to structural completion. We do this with fixed pricing, a dedicated in-house team, and a relentless focus on quality and client care.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a naturally energetic, personable, and highly competent Construction Estimator to join our busy estimating team. To succeed in this role, you must have a strong background in residential construction and a passion for accuracy. As our project estimator, you will thrive on juggling multiple, time-sensitive priorities while playing a pivotal role in the department’s overall success and the growth of the business.

The ideal candidate is someone who goes "above and beyond" to ensure every job is set up for success, ultimately driving client satisfaction and generating valuable referrals.

Key Responsibilities

As a crucial link between our design department, project management, and on-site crews, you will:

- Budgeting & Estimating: Create highly detailed, accurate project budgets and takeoffs using current estimating software.
- Pre-Construction Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the in-house Design Department to help close sales, ensure design intent aligns with budgets, and eliminate ambiguity for our project managers.
- Contractor & Vendor Relations: Oversee trade and contractor administration, including onboarding and compliance.
- Scope & Change Management: Handle, calculate, and negotiate change orders with subcontractors, trade partners, and clients,

ensuring fair pricing and clear communication.
- Proactive Communication: Lead multi-party communications, serving as the bridge between client needs, company management, suppliers, and site crews.
- Department Teamwork: Collaborate with the rest of the estimating and management teams to keep OGC projects running smoothly and within budget.

Position Requirements

- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of dedicated construction estimating experience, specifically within residential renovations, home additions, and custom builds.
- Software Proficiency: Strong competence with MS Office (especially Excel) and modern digital estimating/takeoff software (e.g., Buildertrend, PlanSwift, or similar).
- Industry Knowledge: Deep, practical understanding of residential construction methods, materials, and local trade pricing.
- Building Codes: Strong working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code (OBC) / National Building Code.
- Soft Skills: Outstanding organizational, negotiation, and high-level project management skills. Must be highly adaptable, resilient, and possess excellent people skills to handle a hectic, fast-paced environment.
- Vehicle: Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle for site visits (as needed).

Why Join OGC?

- Competitive salary commensurate with your experience.
- Opportunity to work with an award-winning, forward-thinking, and supportive team.
- Dynamic, high-energy work environment with room for growth opportunities.
