About Lepp Brothers

Lepp Brothers Inc. is a growing heavy civil excavation and construction company based in Port Colborne, Ontario. We complete a variety of underground infrastructure and site servicing projects for public and private clients throughout Niagara and Southern Ontario.

We are looking for an experienced Civil Pipelayer who takes pride in their work, understands underground construction, and works well with a crew. This is a hands-on position for someone who can install pipe accurately, anticipate the next step, and contribute to a safe, productive job site.

The Position

You will work alongside our foremen, equipment operators, and labourers to install watermain, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and related underground infrastructure. Projects may include new construction, servicing upgrades, repairs, and connections to existing systems.

The successful candidate will understand that quality pipe installation starts with proper preparation and requires attention throughout the entire process—from bedding and layout to joint assembly, backfill, and testing.

Key Responsibilities

Pipe installation and underground servicing

- Install watermain, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, service connections, and associated fittings according to project drawings, specifications, and manufacturer requirements.
- Work with materials such as PVC, HDPE, ductile iron, and concrete pipe, depending on the project.
- Prepare and check pipe bedding, maintain line and grade, and ensure proper pipe support and alignment.
- Clean, inspect, lubricate, and assemble pipe joints using the correct procedures.
- Install valves, hydrants, bends, tees, reducers, restraints, service connections, and other watermain components.
- Assist with installing manholes, catch basins, maintenance holes, and other precast structures.
- Assist with connections to existing infrastructure, temporary bypasses, and planned shutdown work.

Layout and quality control

- Read and interpret servicing drawings, profiles, details, elevations, and grades.
- Set up and use pipe lasers, rotary lasers, grade rods, and other layout tools.
- Check inverts,

slopes, joint engagement, and installation accuracy as work progresses.
- Identify conflicts, unsuitable trench conditions, damaged materials, or discrepancies and report them promptly to the foreman.
- Assist with pressure testing, flushing, disinfection, leakage testing, and inspection preparation as required.

Crew coordination and site safety

- Communicate clearly with equipment operators during excavation, pipe placement, and backfilling.
- Help coordinate materials, tools, and fittings so the crew can work efficiently.
- Assist with bedding placement, haunching, backfilling, and compaction while protecting installed infrastructure.
- Follow trench protection requirements, safe lifting and rigging practices, utility exposure procedures, and site-specific safety plans.
- Maintain an organized work area and inspect tools and equipment before use.
- Support other crew activities as needed, including material handling, site preparation, and cleanup.

Qualifications and Experience
- Previous hands-on experience installing underground utilities on civil construction projects.
- Ability to install pipe to specified line and grade with consistent attention to workmanship.
- Working knowledge of watermain, sanitary, and storm sewer installation methods.
- Ability to read servicing drawings and use lasers and grade-checking equipment.
- Familiarity with pipe fittings, restraints, gaskets, bedding materials, and compaction practices.
- Understanding of excavation hazards, trench protection, and working around heavy equipment and existing utilities.
- Dependable attendance, explicit communication, and a willingness to contribute wherever the crew needs support.

- Ability to perform physical construction work outdoors, including lifting and carrying materials, bending, kneeling, and working on uneven ground.
- Reliable transportation to assigned reporting locations.

Additional assets include:

- Three or more years of civil pipelaying experience.
- Experience with municipal infrastructure, deep servicing, live utility connections, or forcemain work.
- HDPE fusion experience or training.
- Experience installing precast structures and completing watermain testing.
- Relevant safety training, such as First Aid/CPR, traffic control, or confined space awareness.
- A valid driver’s licence.

Working Conditions This position involves outdoor construction work in varying weather and ground conditions. Work locations and start times depend on project requirements. Some projects may require travel within Southern Ontario, extended hours, or scheduled evening and weekend work.

Who Will Succeed Here

We value people who show up prepared, take direction well, ask questions when something is unclear, and take responsibility for the quality of their work. You should be comfortable working as part of a crew, helping less experienced workers, and speaking up when you identify a safety concern or installation issue.

As Lepp Brothers grows, we are looking for capable people who want to grow with us and take on greater responsibility.

How to Apply

Apply through Indeed with your résumé and a brief description of your underground construction experience. Please highlight the types of pipe and systems you have installed, your experience with lasers and layout, and any relevant certifications.

If you take pride in accurate installations, safe work, and being someone your crew can count on, we would like to hear from you.
