Field Technician – Construction Materials Testing

Apex Testing Inc. is a growing construction materials testing and inspection company based in Waterloo. We are looking for a dependable, motivated Field Technician to support projects throughout Waterloo Region and surrounding areas.

This position involves hands-on work at construction sites, collecting samples, performing tests, and documenting results. The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in accurate work, and communicates professionally with clients and contractors.

Responsibilities

- Perform field testing of soil, granular materials, concrete, and asphalt.
- Conduct compaction testing using a nuclear density gauge after completing the required training and authorization.
- Sample fresh concrete, perform slump, air content, and temperature tests, and prepare concrete test cylinders.
- Collect and transport soil, aggregate, concrete, and asphalt samples.
- Record accurate field notes and prepare clear test reports.
- Communicate test results and site observations to project staff.
- Assist with laboratory testing, sample preparation, and equipment maintenance.
- Follow company procedures and site health and safety requirements.

Qualifications
- Experience in construction materials testing, civil construction,



or a related field is preferred.
- A diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technician, or a related program is an asset.
- Valid Ontario G driver’s licence and a clean driving record.
- Strong attention to detail, basic math skills, and computer proficiency.
- Ability to work independently and manage changing daily schedules.
- Ability to safely lift and carry testing equipment and samples and work outdoors in varying weather.
- Availability for early starts, occasional extended hours, and travel to project sites.
- Concrete testing certifications, nuclear gauge training, TDG, and WHMIS training are assets.
