We are looking for a Financial Planning Analyst – Technology & AI to join our team!

General Details:
- Location: London, Ontario (in office)
- Schedule: 37.5 hours per week.
- Compensation: Starting at $75,000, base salary set based on experience, plus a standard benefits package.
- Professional Development: Employer-supported training, licensing, and designation opportunities.
A Little About Us
At SPM Financial and SPM Benefits, we believe that great financial service starts with great people.
For more than 30 years, we have helped individuals, families, and businesses navigate their financial futures through wealth management, retirement planning, insurance, and group benefits.
Our philosophy is simple: Manage Your Risk. Grow Your Wealth.
We are a team of approximately 40 professionals who value relationships, collaboration, integrity, and doing what's right for our clients.
As we continue to grow, we are investing in how we support our clients and advisors through a more collaborative, team-based service model. This means creating opportunities for our team members to take ownership of their work, develop specialized expertise, and build meaningful careers.
We believe that the people behind the scenes are just as important to the client experience as those sitting across the table from our clients.
And that is where you come in!
What You'll Be Doing
As our Financial Planning Analyst – Technology & AI, you'll work closely with financial advisors to develop comprehensive financial plans while exploring innovative ways to use technology to improve the planning process.
Your responsibilities will include
- Developing financial plans: Prepare retirement forecasts, cash flow projections, investment analyses, insurance needs assessments, and other financial planning documents.
- Putting AI to work: Use financial planning software and AI-enabled tools to support analysis, improve accuracy, and streamline processes.
- Getting the details right: Review financial information, validate assumptions, and ensure plans are accurate, complete, and ready for advisor review.
- Supporting advisors and clients:
Gather information, prepare financial projections, communicate findings, and incorporate feedback.
- Exploring new technology: Research, test, and recommend AI and productivity tools that could improve financial planning processes.
- Sharing your knowledge: Help develop efficient workflows, document processes, and support colleagues in using technology effectively.
- Staying current: Continue building your knowledge of financial planning, regulatory requirements, and responsible AI practices.
All financial plans are reviewed and approved by the appropriate licensed advisor before being shared with clients.
What You'll Bring to the Team
We're looking for someone who brings more than technical skills. The right person will be curious, analytical, resourceful, and excited about learning.
You might be a great fit if you:
- Love solving problems: You enjoy working through complex information and finding practical solutions.
- Are excited about technology: You enjoy experimenting with AI and discovering more efficient ways to work.
- Have an analytical mind: Numbers, spreadsheets, and financial information are right up your alley.
- Take pride in the details: Accuracy matters, and you understand the importance of checking your work.
- Think critically: You know when to question information rather than simply accepting what technology produces.
- Take initiative: You are organized, accountable, and comfortable working independently.
- Enjoy learning and collaborating: You ask great questions, communicate clearly, and enjoy sharing ideas.
Your Experience and Qualifications
Ideally, you will bring:
- 1–3 years of experience in financial planning, investments, insurance, retirement planning, or a related analytical role. Recent graduates with strong technical aptitude will also be considered.
- Post-secondary education in Finance, Financial Planning, Business, Commerce, Economics, or a related field.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
- Hands-on experience using generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude, Gemini, or similar platforms.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate, high-quality work.
Licensing and Professional Development
- LLQP and either the CIFC or CSC, completed or achievable within 90 days of hire.
- Commitment to pursuing the QAFP designation through FP Canada within approximately 24 months, with employer support.
Even better if you have:
- Experience with financial planning software, AI-enabled planning platforms, or CRM systems.
- Knowledge of retirement planning, financial modelling, or investment analysis.
- Progress toward a QAFP or CFP designation.
- Additional education or certifications in data analytics, AI, or financial technology.
Don't check every box? If you're analytical, comfortable with technology, and excited to grow your financial planning expertise, we encourage you to apply!
