.Part-Time Geotechnical Engineer (P.Eng.)

Apex Testing Inc. is a growing construction materials testing and inspection company based in Waterloo. We are seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to provide technical guidance, review reports, and support projects throughout Waterloo Region and surrounding areas.

This position offers flexible hours, with an anticipated commitment of approximately 10–15 hours per week, depending on project needs. The role includes a combination of remote report review, field visits, and collaboration with our testing team.

Responsibilities

● Provide engineering oversight and technical guidance for geotechnical and construction materials testing assignments.

● Review field observations, laboratory results, compaction reports, and related technical documentation.

● Assess subgrade conditions and provide recommendations for bearing capacity, foundations, engineered fill, and earthworks within the scope of assigned projects.

● Attend project sites to complete assessments and address geotechnical concerns.

● Prepare and review engineering letters, reports, and recommendations.

● Sign and seal engineering documents where appropriate, following sufficient review and professional involvement.

● Assist with proposals, scopes of work, testing programs, and quality assurance procedures.





● Communicate with clients, contractors, consultants, and field technicians.

Qualifications

● Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing with Professional Engineers Ontario.

● Relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, earthworks, foundations, and construction materials testing.

● Familiarity with applicable Ontario codes, standards, and specifications.

● Strong technical judgment and clear report-writing skills.

● Ability to work independently and provide practical, timely recommendations.

● Valid driver’s licence and availability for occasional site visits.

● Experience supporting a materials testing laboratory or consulting firm is an asset.
