Grant Development & Compliance Specialist

Missing Children Society of Canada (MCSC) Full-Time | Permanent | Calgary / Remote

Help Build the Funding That Makes the Mission Possible The Missing Children Society of Canada (MCSC) is looking for a Grant Development & Compliance Specialist to take ownership of our institutional funding portfolio and help strengthen and grow our government funding capacity. This is an opportunity for an experienced grant professional who loves the combination of research, writing, strategy, relationship management, reporting and organization.

You will play a key role in identifying new funding opportunities, developing compelling grant applications, managing existing grants and communicating the impact of MCSC's work to funders.

This is more than a grant-writing position — but grant writing is at the heart of the role.

You will help build a disciplined, sustainable government funding function that supports MCSC's continued impact across Canada.

What You Will Do

Grant Development & Writing

- Research and identify relevant government, foundation and institutional funding opportunities across Canada.
- Assess opportunities against MCSC's mandate, priorities, capacity and likelihood of success.
- Build and maintain a disciplined funding pipeline and calendar.
- Lead the writing and development of grant applications, proposals, expressions of interest and renewals.
- Develop compelling narratives that communicate MCSC's programs, outcomes and impact.
- Tailor applications to individual funder priorities, requirements and evaluation criteria.
- Collaborate with internal teams to gather program information, outcomes, data, budgets and supporting materials.
- Maintain strong, reusable grant content and organizational information.
- Think creatively about new funding opportunities and approaches to institutional funding.

Grant Management, Reporting & Impact

- Own a portfolio of active grants from funding award through reporting and renewal.
- Track grant commitments, deadlines, deliverables, funding conditions and reporting requirements.
- Coordinate information required for interim and final funder reports.
- Translate program outcomes, data and results into clear, compelling reporting that demonstrates the impact of funded work.
- Work collaboratively with program, finance, technology and partnership teams to ensure grant commitments are measurable, realistic and reportable.
- Communicate directly with funders regarding applications, reporting, renewals,

grant requirements and other portfolio-related matters.
- Maintain organized and authoritative records of applications, agreements, reports, correspondence and grant commitments.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen reporting, demonstrate outcomes and support successful renewals.

Financial & Cross-Functional Partnership

- Work closely with Finance to develop and review grant budgets and funding allocations.
- Understand how grant funding flows through program delivery and how financial information supports funder reporting.
- Support the preparation and review of financial information required for grant applications and reporting.
- Monitor budgets and variances within the context of grant requirements and work with Finance to address questions or issues.

Build the Function You will also help MCSC strengthen how it manages institutional funding by developing practical tools, templates, processes and tracking systems that create consistency, visibility and institutional knowledge.

You will help build a sustainable approach to grant development and management that remains valuable to MCSC beyond any individual grant or funding cycle.

What You Bring

You are a strong grant professional who can own the full funding cycle - from identifying the right opportunity and writing a compelling application through grant management, reporting, demonstrating impact and renewal.

You will bring:

- Demonstrated experience writing successful grant applications, proposals or institutional funding submissions.
- Demonstrated experience working with government funding programs and grant processes.
- Excellent writing, editing and communication skills.
- Robust research, analytical and opportunity-assessment skills.
- The ability to develop compelling funding narratives that connect programs, outcomes and impact.
- The ability to manage a portfolio of grants, deadlines, commitments and reporting requirements independently.
- Strong financial literacy, with the ability to understand grant budgets, funding allocations, variances and financial reporting requirements, and work effectively in partnership with Finance.

- The ability to interpret program outcomes and data and clearly articulate impact in funder reporting.
- Excellent organization, attention to detail and follow-through.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and quality.
- Strong judgment and the ability to determine which funding opportunities are worth pursuing.
- The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across different areas of an organization.
- A proactive, curious approach and the ability to think outside the box when identifying funding opportunities.
- Experience using tools or systems to manage grant pipelines, deadlines, reporting and portfolio information.

Considered an Asset

- Experience managing grants from application through reporting and renewal.
- Canadian federal and/or provincial government funding experience.
- Foundation or institutional funding experience.
- Nonprofit or charitable-sector experience.
- Experience with outcomes measurement, impact reporting or evaluation.
- Experience building grant-management systems, processes or templates.
- Familiarity with grant-management software, CRM systems or other funding-tracking tools.

What We Are Not Looking For This is not a broad fundraising position.

You will not be responsible for major gifts, individual donor portfolios, fundraising events, broad corporate sponsorship or routine donor administration.

Our focus is government funding: finding the right opportunities, writing strong applications, securing funding, managing the grant portfolio and clearly demonstrating the impact that funding makes.

Why MCSC?

This is a chance to join an organization with a meaningful national mission while helping build something that will have a lasting impact beyond the individual role.

You will have the opportunity to shape MCSC's institutional funding processes, strengthen existing funding relationships, identify new opportunities and help ensure the organization has the resources to continue and expand its work.

If you are an experienced grant professional who wants to own a funding portfolio, build strong government funding opportunities and see your work directly connected to meaningful social impact, we would like to hear from you.

Screening Requirements A satisfactory criminal record check is required as a condition of employment. Additional screening requirements may apply based on the responsibilities of the position.
