WellNest Design

Canada

The spaces we inhabit do not just surround us. They shape us.

At WellNest, we design for the nervous system first. Clinics where no one is overheard. Spas and thermal retreats that slow a body down. Boutique hotels and hospitality spaces where guests arrive and exhale. Wellness centres in heritage buildings. Homes built around better sleep. We call it Recovery Architecture: light, air, sound, materials and nature, arranged so people leave a space feeling better than when they arrived.

Most of our work is commercial: wellness and hospitality, including clinics, spas, studios, retreats and guest experiences across Canada. Residential lives under the same umbrella, held to the same philosophy.

We’re a small, fully remote studio that works like a household. We’re looking for the next person to join the team.

The role

You’ll work alongside our principal designer, who leads concept, code and client vision. You bring the execution: the drawings, the models, the selections and the presentations that turn an idea into something a client can feel.

In residential, you lead. Space planning, selections, finishes, lighting and presentations, carried from first concept to final schedule, with guidance when you need it.

In commercial, you build alongside. Concept boards, material and FF&E; selections, 3D visualisation and client presentations in Canva, at every stage of the design. No code knowledge needed. That part is ours.

Must have

- Training in interior design or architecture, with a degree or diploma to show for it
- Fluency in AutoCAD and SketchUp, and strength in 3D visualisation and rendering
- Ease in Canva. You know a presentation is part of the design, not an afterthought
- A natural eye for selections: how a stone, a fabric and a light temperature belong together
- A detail-minded, organised way of working, and steadiness on deadlines
- Comfort working independently and remotely, and communicating clearly online
- Versatility. One day it’s a clinic,

the next a hotel lobby, the next a primary suite
- A genuine pull toward neurodesign, biophilic, sustainable and wellness design
- AI already in your workflow, and curiosity to push it further
- Availability during weekday daytime hours (Mountain Time)

Good to have

- Projects you’ve already delivered in wellness, hospitality, biophilic, sustainable or accessible design
- Experience specifying non-toxic materials from vetted suppliers, and fluency with certifications like GREENGUARD, Green Seal and zero-VOC
- Familiarity with neuroarchitecture principles or WELL concepts
- Residential experience across renovations and current builds

Years matter less to us than eye, training and alignment. Show us what you can do.

The details

- Independent contract, hourly, up to 30 hours a week
- Fully remote. We don’t have a physical studio
- Meetings are mostly online, with the occasional site visit when a project calls for it

To apply Send your portfolio to [email protected] with the subject line “Interior Design Position – [Your Name]”.

Your portfolio

Show us how you think and what you see. We’d love 2–3 projects that walk from concept to finished space: the idea, mood boards, material palette and your own 3D visualisations. Include at least one selections board or finish schedule, and anything you’ve designed for wellbeing, whether built, studied or imagined. Please skip construction drawings; our drafting is covered.

In a short note, tell us:

1. Which project in your portfolio best shows how a space can change how someone feels, and what was your part in it?
2. Which design principle, from neurodesign, biophilia or sustainability, do you keep returning to, and why?
3. Tell us about a material or product you specified because it was healthier. How did you vet it?
4. Which AI tools do you use in your design work, and for what?

Applications without a portfolio, 3D work, or answers to all four won’t be reviewed.

If our values sound like yours, we’d love to hear from you.
