Company Overview
True North Positioning Inc. provides measurement services for the construction industry, including construction layout, as-builts, 3D modelling, 3D scanning and consulting.
Summary
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Construction Survey Operations Manager to lead our field and office survey operations. In this role, you will bridge the gap between our field survey teams, office CAD/BIM specialists, and external client stakeholders across major commercial, industrial, and institutional construction projects. You will manage daily dispatch, coordinate project control and drawings, uphold rigorous QA/QC standards for high-precision layout and reality capture, and mentor a growing technical team.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Team Leadership
-Direct daily operations: manage scheduling, dispatch, and resource allocation for multiple field crews and in-office CAD technicians.
-Lead recruiting, onboarding, training, and performance reviews for both field surveyors and CAD/drafting staff.
-Foster a solid safety culture and ensure all field operations comply with Ontario OHSA and site-specific safety regulations.
-Project Coordination & Client Communication. Serve as the primary technical point of contact for clients, general contractors, concrete/structural trades, and engineering teams.
-Coordinate incoming architectural/structural CAD and IFC/BIM models, ensuring all design revisions, grid adjustments, and addenda are promptly resolved and communicated to the field.
-Establish, verify, and document site primary horizontal and vertical control networks prior to layout mobilizations.
-Technical QA/QC & Reality Capture. Implement and enforce quality control/assurance (QA/QC) standards for layout points, gridlines, caisson/anchor bolt placements, and as-built surveys.
-Oversee 3D laser scanning workflows: scan data registration, point cloud cleaning,
floor flatness/levelness (FF/FL) reporting, and scan-to-BIM validation.
-Review and approve all client-facing deliverables (as-built drawing packages, elevation deviation heatmaps, clash reports, and point files) before release.
-Equipment & Workflow Management. Oversee maintenance, calibration routines, and firmware updates for robotic total stations, 3D scanners, field controllers, and GPS/GNSS equipment.
-Refine office-to-field data exchange workflows to ensure seamless point transfer and zero downtime on site.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience: 7+ years of progressive experience in high-precision construction layout and survey operations, with at least 2–3 years in a leadership, dispatch, or operational management role.
Technical Mastery: Deep hands-on experience with modern robotic total stations, high-definition 3D laser scanners, and field collection software (e.g., Trimble FieldLink / Access, Leica Captivate, or equivalent). * **
Software Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of Autodesk Civil 3D, AutoCAD, Revit, ReCap, and point cloud registration tools (e.g., Trimble RealWorks, Leica Cyclone, or CloudCompare).
BIM & VDC Understanding: Solid understanding of BIM coordination workflows, Navisworks, clash detection, and scan-to-model deviation analysis.
Communication & Organization: Outstanding logistical coordination, scheduling, and contractor-facing communication skills under tight construction timelines.
Credentials: Diploma or Degree in Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology, Surveying, or equivalent construction field experience. Professional licensure/certification (OLS, CET, or P.Eng) is an asset but not mandatory for a candidate with proven field-to-finish track records.
License: Valid Ontario G driver’s licence with a clean driving record.
Pay: $100,000.00-$125,000.00 per year
