The work
Picture a Tuesday. You start the morning on interior signage for an independent school's new building. After lunch, you're in a concept session with our copywriter for a police recruitment campaign. Before you head home, you've planned next week's posts for a local brewery and checked how last month's posts performed.
If that sounds like a great day, we'd love to meet you.
Indalma Creative is hiring a full-time Graphic Designer to join our team, working between our Ladner studio and home. This role is for someone who enjoys shaping ideas as much as bringing them to life.
About Indalma
We're a branding and design studio in Ladner, BC, and for more than 22 years we've helped organizations connect with the people they serve.
Every client we work with exists to serve a community. A police chief joined their department to serve theirs. A brewery owner wants to be part of their neighbourhood. The words change depending on who we're talking to, but the goal stays the same: help them connect with their people everywhere they show up, whether that's someone walking through the front door, ordering at the counter, or spotting the building from the parking lot.
Since 2011, we've built a specialty in branding and recruitment for Canadian police agencies. We also work with hospital foundations, independent schools, non-profits, home builders and trades, real estate and property management teams, breweries, local food brands and B2B companies.
Our clients see us as a peer, a thought partner and the team that sees it through. We draw out what they already know, then we turn it into work that connects. On a team our size, that means everyone, including you, plays a real part in how the work turns out.
How you'll work
You'll have several projects moving at once, often for very different clients and at different stages. One might need focused design time, another might need a client presentation, and a third might be waiting on content before you can move forward.
Our project manager sets the priorities and timelines. Within those, you'll decide how and when to do the work, plan your days, manage your time against each project's budget, and keep things moving. You won't be waiting for someone to tell you what to do every step of the way.
The brief won't always answer every question. When it doesn't, you'll research, make a thoughtful decision and keep moving. If you spot something that could affect the timeline, budget or scope, you'll flag it early rather than letting it become a problem later.
We don't expect you to have all the answers. We do expect you to be curious, resourceful and comfortable taking ownership of your work.
What you'll do
- Brand design: identities, brand systems, and the pieces that bring a brand to life.
- Multipage documents: annual reports, recommendation documents, guides, and donor and recruitment materials.
- Websites: design and build sites on Squarespace.
- Social media, start to finish: meet with the client, plan the posting schedule, develop the themes and concepts, write the captions, design the images, post, and review the analytics to see what's working.
- Concepts with our copywriter: develop ideas together and help present them to clients.
- Signage and environmental graphics: interior signage, wayfinding, donor recognition and vehicle graphics. Experience here is a bonus, and we'll teach you what you need.
- Time with clients: join meetings, present your work, and head out on site visits.
- Project management from the design side: keep track of what needs to happen next, manage your hours against the project budget, and communicate when something needs attention.
What you bring:
- A minimum of three years of design experience at a studio or agency, working with several clients at the same time
- Strong Adobe Creative Cloud skills
- Experience designing and building websites in Squarespace
- Experience running social media accounts for clients, including writing captions
- A portfolio that shows brand work, multipage documents, and range across different styles
- Confidence presenting ideas to clients and explaining the thinking behind them
- The ability to prioritize and manage your time when several projects are moving at once
- Good judgment and the confidence to research, make decisions and move work forward when the brief doesn't cover everything
- The discipline to manage your time against project budgets, and the communication skills to flag questions or potential issues early.
A few things that matter here You like variety. You might move from a donor wall to a social campaign to a 40-page report in the same week.
You enjoy adapting your approach to the client rather than trying to make every project look like your work.
You can work independently. We have a project manager and a team around you, but we're a small studio, so everyone carries real responsibility. You'll need to be comfortable figuring things out, making decisions and asking for help when you need it.
You care about the details and the bigger picture. You can think about the concept, but you also notice when something doesn't line up, a deadline is at risk or the hours are getting tight.
You want to be part of the thinking. You come to the table with ideas, ask positive questions and care about why we're doing something, not just what needs to be produced. You can hold three points of view at once: how we approach the work as a studio, what our client needs, and who their audience is. We shape the solution through our client's eyes, and the creative is made for the people they want to reach.
How we work together
Every project comes with a brief, a timeline and an hour budget. How you use those hours is up to you. Spend a focused afternoon on one project, or spread the work across the week. We track time against each project so we deliver what we promise our clients.
You'll work closely with our project manager, our in-house designer, our copywriter and our principal brand strategist.
When you join, we'll check in at 30, 60 and 90 days to make sure you have what you need to do your best work.
