Montreal
Hands-on fiber work in a photonics lab building navigation sensors.
Full time or part-time. In our Montréal lab, weekdays. Not remote. Start: as soon as possible.
About us
OSCP builds photonic inertial sensors (gyroscopes, IMUs and navigation systems) in Montréal. Our sensors keep drones, robots, vehicles and aircraft navigating when satellite navigation (GNSS) is jammed or gone. We are about 20 people.
The job
You join our photonics team in the lab and keep the builds and tests moving.
- Handle, strip, cleave and fusion-splice optical fiber
- Connectorize and inspect fiber; clean and check connectors
- Align optics and couple light into fiber
- Measure optical power and loss
- Assemble and rework test setups and prototypes
- Record results and keep lab notes and parts in order
- Keep the lab tidy, safe and stocked
About you
- Hands-on experience with optical fiber: cleaving and fusion splicing at minimum
- Steady hands, patient, careful with fragile parts
- Comfortable with lab equipment: power meters, light sources, microscopes, optical tables
- Follows procedures and writes down what was done
- Laser safety awareness
- English required. French is an asset.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- In our Montréal lab, weekdays. Not remote.
Full-time track: DEC or degree in photonics, physics, electronics or similar, plus 1 year of lab or fiber work (telecom, fiber sensing,
photonics research or manufacturing).
Part-time track: the same skills, at least 20 hours a week on weekdays. Students in a photonics, physics, engineering physics or electrical program (CEGEP or university) are welcome, with fiber or lab work from courses, research or a previous job.
Nice to have
- Fiber test equipment (OTDR, optical spectrum analyzer)
- Basic Python or LabVIEW for test automation
What we offer
- Real lab work on products customers use
- Training from our photonics team
- Full-time: equity through stock options, group insurance, paid time off
- Part-time: a schedule that fits around your classes or other work
How to apply
Apply through Indeed, or send your CV to [email protected] with the subject "Optical Lab Technician - [Full-time or Part-time] - [Your Name]".
Ability to commute/relocate
- Montréal, QC H3C 2M7: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
Application question(s):
- Are you applying for full-time or part-time? If part-time, how many hours a week and which weekdays can you work?
- Which have you done hands-on: fiber cleaving, fusion splicing, connectorizing, coupling light into fiber, optical power or loss measurement? Which fusion splicers or test equipment have you used?
Work Location: In person
