Orton-Gillingham (OG) Tutor-Mentor – Winnipeg

TutorBright is seeking experienced Orton-Gillingham (OG) Tutor-Mentors to support students with reading, writing, spelling, and literacy development throughout Winnipeg.

We are looking for dedicated educators with training or experience in the Orton-Gillingham approach, particularly those who have worked with students with dyslexia, reading difficulties, and other language-based learning differences.

This flexible, part-time opportunity allows you to create a schedule around your availability while providing personalized, one-on-one tutoring and mentorship. Responsibilities:

- Provide personalized one-on-one tutoring using the Orton-Gillingham approach.
- Support students with phonics, decoding, spelling, reading fluency, comprehension, and written expression.
- Deliver structured, systematic, and multisensory literacy instruction tailored to individual learning needs.
- Assist students with dyslexia, reading difficulties, and other language-based learning challenges.
- Assess student progress and adapt lesson plans to strengthen foundational literacy skills.
- Act as a mentor and positive role model, helping students develop confidence, independence, and effective learning habits.

Qualifications:

- Training in the Orton-Gillingham approach or a closely related structured literacy intervention program.
- Strong understanding of phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding, spelling, and reading development.
- Experience supporting students with dyslexia or language-based learning difficulties.
- Previous tutoring, teaching, special education, or literacy intervention experience is considered an asset.
- Excellent communication, patience,



and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to deliver structured, engaging, and individualized lessons.

Requirements:

- Ability to provide in-home and/or online tutoring.
- Must be located in Winnipeg.
- Reliable transportation for in-home tutoring.
- Current Vulnerable Sector Check or willingness to obtain one.
- Ability to implement Orton-Gillingham instructional techniques effectively.

Additional Assets:

- Formal Orton-Gillingham certification or supervised practicum experience.
- Enrolled in or completed a Bachelor's degree program.
- Graduate of or currently enrolled in a B.Ed., B.A., Psychology, Special Education, Linguistics, or related program.
- Certified Teacher or Reading Specialist.
- Experience supporting students with dyslexia, ADHD, ASD, or other learning differences.
- Experience providing structured literacy interventions or specialized reading instruction.
