Maison Fresh is a premium produce and plant-based prepared foods store inside Toronto's St. Lawrence Market. We offer local, organic and seasonal Ontario foods, along with a wide variety of fresh produce.

We are seeking a dependable, friendly part-time cashier/customer-service team member who enjoys helping customers and takes pride in doing a job well. This is a hands-on role that includes checkout, customer service, restocking and keeping the front end organised.

Hours and availability

This is a part-time position. Weekly hours and shifts will vary with seasonal demand, staffing requirements and business needs; no minimum weekly hours are guaranteed. Additional hours and the possibility of full-time work may become available as the season gets busier, subject to business needs and mutual availability.

Weekend availability is required. Flexibility to work opening and closing shifts is important. Please include the days and times you can consistently work when applying.

Responsibilities

- Welcome customers and provide friendly, attentive service.
- Process purchases accurately using our cash register and debit/credit POS systems.
- Weigh produce, enter product codes and assist customers with product and price questions.
- Learn our fruits, vegetables and other products so you can help customers make their selections.
- Restock and merchandise fresh produce and packaged goods, checking quality and rotating stock.
- Keep the checkout, displays and retail area clean, tidy and organised.
- Support opening and closing procedures and complete assigned tasks carefully.




- Work cooperatively with the team and help with other general store duties as needed.

What we are looking for
- Reliable attendance, punctuality and clear, timely communication.
- A friendly, outgoing approach and confidence serving customers in a busy market.
- The ability to adjust and project your voice so customers and coworkers can clearly hear you when the market is loud, while remaining warm and professional.
- Strong spoken English for customer conversations, product questions and team communication.
- Accuracy with payments, basic maths and willingness to learn our checkout systems and produce codes.
- Good judgment, honesty and a willingness to ask questions when unsure.
- Initiative to notice what needs doing and follow through without constant reminders.
- Comfort with restocking, cleaning, standing during shifts and other hands-on store work.
- Previous cashier, customer-service or retail experience is an asset. Grocery, produce or natural-food-store experience is especially helpful.
- An interest in fresh food and a willingness to learn are important. We are also open to candidates with robust transferable skills who can demonstrate care, accuracy and dependability.
- Food Handler certification is an asset but is not required.
