Overview

As a Home Support Caregiver, you will help clients with daily living, companionship, and everyday personal care in their own homes, following each client’s customized care plan. No PSW certificate is required. We value kindness, reliability, and a genuine desire to care for others, and we’ll train you to do the job well.

Responsibilities

- Daily Living Support
- Plan and prepare meals according to dietary needs and preferences

Companionship & Emotional Support

- Offer friendly conversation, games, activities, and social engagement
- Encourage independence and participation in daily routines
- Accompany clients on walks, outings, and community events
- Respect each client’s cultural, personal, and family preferences

Personal Care Support

- Assist with dressing, grooming, and basic hygiene routines
- Provide mobility support and help with safe movement around the home
- Offer medication reminders (not administration) and help with eating

Care Plan, Safety & Communication

- Follow care plan and report any changes in condition, mood, or needs promptly
- Document each visit accurately and on time (care notes or care journal)
- Contribute to regular family updates as directed
- Maintain a safe home environment, identifying and reporting hazards
- Follow infection prevention and hand hygiene practices
- Respond appropriately in emergencies and notify the office immediately
- Perform light housekeeping and laundry
- Complete grocery shopping and errands
- Accompany or transport clients to appointments and outings

Qualifications

Required

- Clear Vulnerable Sector Check (completed within the last 6 months) and satisfactory reference checks
- Legal eligibility to work in Canada
- Good communication skills in English
- Reliable, punctual, and professional
- A compassionate, patient, and respectful approach




- Willingness to complete training and obtain First Aid/CPR (or hold current certification)

Preferred (an asset, not a requirement)

- Experience caring for a family member, friend, or client
- Experience in home care, long-term care, retirement living, childcare, or other caring roles
- Interest in pursuing PSW certification
- Additional languages
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle (mileage reimbursed where applicable)

- Observant and quick to communicate concerns
- Physically able to assist with light lifting, extended periods of standing, walking, and bending

Working Conditions
- Work takes place in clients’ homes; some homes may include pets or other environmental factors
- Schedules may include days, evenings, weekends, overnights, and holidays
- Travel between client homes may be required
