About the Role

Casal Catering is looking for an experienced and dependable Prep Cook / Catering Kitchen Assistant to join our catering team in Barrie.

This is a hands-on kitchen position ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced catering environment and takes pride in preparing high-quality food for weddings, banquets and special events.

The successful candidate will have previous catering or banquet experience, formal culinary training and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Our event schedule varies throughout the week, so flexibility to work mornings, days, evenings and weekends is required.

What You'll Be Doing

- Prepare and cook meals and specialty foods for weddings, banquets and other catered events
- Assist with both buffet and plated meal service
- Prepare ingredients and complete general food preparation
- Assist with plating and execution during banquet meal service
- Prepare meals for guests with food allergies, dietary restrictions or intolerances
- Follow proper food safety and handling procedures
- Maintain a clean, organized and sanitary kitchen
- Clean and maintain kitchen equipment and work areas
- Receive, unpack and properly store food and kitchen supplies
- Organize supplies in refrigerators, freezers, cupboards and other storage areas
- Work closely with the culinary and event teams to ensure meals are prepared accurately and on schedule
- Help troubleshoot and solve problems during busy event service

What We're Looking For

Required:

- Previous catering and/or banquet experience
- Experience with buffet and plated meal service
- Formal culinary training
- Strong food preparation and cooking skills




- Knowledge of food safety and protected food-handling practices
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong time-management and organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Flexibility to work mornings, days, evenings and weekends based on event bookings
- Valid Full G driver's licence with a clean driving record

An Asset:

- Previous Sous Chef or senior kitchen experience
- Experience managing or coordinating plating during banquet meal service
- Experience preparing food for large weddings, banquets and catered events

Hours & Schedule This is an event-based catering environment, so the schedule varies depending on bookings.

We can guarantee approximately 24 hours per week to start, with hours typically increasing to 35+ hours per week during our busy season from April/May through December.

Shifts may include

- Morning shifts
- Day shifts
- Evening shifts
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as required

Compensation Starting at $20.00 per hour, with compensation negotiable based on culinary training, catering experience and overall experience level.
