Job Title: Chemist — Chemical Inventory & Waste Assessment

Job Overview

AEGIS Environmental & Recycling Services is looking for a chemist to support chemical inventories and hazardous-waste assessments. We’re open to an independent contract arrangement or a full-time hire, depending on experience and fit.

The initial project near Agassiz involves unidentified laboratory chemicals. The work includes assessing materials, planning safe sampling and testing, and interpreting results to support classification, packaging and receiving-facility acceptance. Responsibilities will be matched to the successful applicant’s experience.

Duties

- Review chemical inventories, labels, SDS and available records.
- Attend sites to assess chemical materials, their condition and compatibility.
- Develop suitable sampling and analytical testing plans.
- Safely obtain samples and perform testing or arrange analysis through an appropriate laboratory.
- Interpret results and document findings to support waste classification, segregation and packaging.
- Work alongside our team during chemical cleanout planning and preparation.

Experience and Qualifications

Two or more years of relevant experience is preferred. Early-career chemists with strong laboratory, sampling or analytical experience are also welcome to apply. Please highlight relevant employment, co-op placements or academic projects. Professional references may be requested during the hiring process.

- A degree in chemistry or a closely related discipline.

- BC Professional Chemist registration preferred; applicants working toward registration are welcome.
- Relevant experience with laboratory chemicals, chemical compatibility and safe sampling.
- Experience with unidentified or legacy chemicals and interpreting analytical results is an asset.
- Familiarity with BC hazardous-waste requirements and TDG classification is an asset.
- Clear documentation and communication skills.

Location and Arrangement The initial project is near Agassiz, with potential future assignments across the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley. Some document review can be completed remotely; site attendance is required as needed.

Applicants should clearly identify which duties they can perform independently and where they would require supervision or specialist support.

For independent contractors, scope and fees will be agreed before work begins.

To Apply

Please provide your relevant experience, professional designation or registration status, availability and preferred employment arrangement. Independent contractors should include their fee structure and indicate whether they provide testing directly or work with an external laboratory.

Apply through Indeed or email [email protected].
