About Sun Glow

Sun Glow is a Canadian manufacturer of custom window covering products, including roller shades, zebra shades, cellular shades, motorized systems, and specialty window treatments.

We are looking for a highly motivated, detail-oriented Quality Control & Continuous Improvement Manager to take full ownership of quality across our manufacturing operations.

This is not simply a quality inspection position. We need someone who can identify systemic problems, investigate their root causes, implement permanent corrective actions, establish standardized procedures, and build a culture where every employee takes responsibility for the quality of their work.

The ideal candidate is hands-on, analytical, organized, and confident enough to challenge existing processes and drive meaningful operational improvements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Quality Control & Assurance

- Take ownership of the company's quality control and assurance processes, from incoming materials through manufacturing, assembly, packaging, and shipping.
- Develop and implement quality inspection procedures, checklists, and acceptance criteria at critical stages of production.
- Establish measurable standards for product dimensions, functionality, appearance, workmanship, and packaging.
- Identify defects before products reach customers and ensure nonconforming products are properly addressed.
- Conduct regular production floor inspections and process audits to verify compliance with quality standards.
- Work with production teams to reduce manufacturing errors, product remakes, material waste, and customer complaints.

2. Root Cause Analysis & Problem Solving

- Lead thorough investigations into product defects, recurring production issues, customer complaints, and installation-related failures.
- Use structured root cause analysis methods such as 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagrams, Pareto Analysis, and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- Go beyond identifying who made a mistake to determine why the mistake happened and how to prevent it from happening again.
- Develop, implement, and verify corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Identify weaknesses in manufacturing processes, equipment, materials, training, and workflow.
- Maintain detailed records of quality issues, root causes, corrective actions, and their effectiveness.
- Analyze trends to identify systemic problems before they become widespread.

3. Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

- Develop, document, implement, and maintain clear Standard Operating Procedures for manufacturing and quality control.
- Review existing production processes, identify inconsistencies, and establish standardized best practices.

- Create visual work instructions, quality checkpoints, training materials, and inspection standards.
- Ensure SOPs are practical, clearly understood, accessible, and consistently followed by employees.
- Regularly review and improve procedures based on production data, quality findings, and operational changes.
- Implement document control processes to ensure employees are always working with current instructions.

4. Employee Training, Compliance & Accountability

- Establish a strong culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the company.
- Train production employees and supervisors on quality standards, procedures, and best practices.
- Conduct regular audits to ensure employees are following established SOPs and quality requirements.
- Identify training gaps, provide coaching, and verify employee competency.
- Address noncompliance promptly and work with department managers to implement corrective measures.
- Ensure production supervisors and employees understand their responsibilities for maintaining quality.
- Promote the principle that quality is built into every stage of manufacturing, not simply inspected at the end.
- Challenge inefficient practices and drive consistent adoption of improved processes.

5. Continuous Improvement & Process Optimization

- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to increase product consistency, manufacturing efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
- Introduce Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, mistake-proofing (Poka-Yoke), and other proven quality improvement methodologies where appropriate.
- Identify opportunities to reduce human error through improved processes, tooling, equipment, and automation.
- Collaborate with production, engineering, purchasing, customer service, and management to resolve cross-functional quality issues.
- Develop preventive controls that reduce reliance on final product inspection.
- Implement improvements with measurable, sustained results.

6. Quality Reporting & Performance Management

- Develop and monitor key quality performance indicators (KPIs), including:
- First Pass Yield (FPY)
- Defect and rejection rates
- Product remake and rework rates
- Customer complaints and returns
- Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ)
- SOP compliance and audit results

- Corrective action completion and effectiveness
- Prepare regular reports identifying quality trends, recurring issues, and improvement opportunities.
- Present findings and recommendations to senior management.
- Establish clear improvement targets and track progress against them.

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

- Minimum 3 years of experience in quality assurance, quality control, manufacturing engineering, or continuous improvement within a manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience conducting root cause investigations and implementing permanent corrective actions.
- Experience developing, implementing, and enforcing Standard Operating Procedures.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, production workflows, and quality management principles.
- Experience conducting process audits and training production employees.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Ability to confidently address quality issues, challenge existing processes, and hold teams accountable.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and quality reporting tools.
- Willingness to spend significant time on the production floor rather than working exclusively from an office.

Preferred:

- Experience in window coverings, textiles, custom manufacturing, assembly, or similar production environments.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management principles.
- Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification.
- Experience implementing quality management systems from the ground up.
- Experience with ERP systems, production tracking, and data-driven quality reporting.
- Understanding of supplier quality management and incoming material inspection.

What We're Looking For We want someone who takes initiative, investigates problems thoroughly, and follows through until improvements are implemented and working.

The successful candidate will

- Take ownership: Accept responsibility for improving quality throughout the organization.
- Solve problems permanently: Identify underlying causes rather than applying temporary fixes.
- Be proactive: Find and eliminate risks before they result in defective products.
- Establish discipline: Ensure employees consistently follow standardized processes.
- Be hands-on: Work directly with production staff to understand and improve manufacturing operations.
- Drive change: Introduce new systems, standards, and ways of working.
- Deliver measurable results: Demonstrate improvements through reduced defects, fewer remakes, lower costs, and better product consistency.

Pay: $50,000.00-$70,000.00 per year

Advantages

- On-site parking
