Recreational Head Coach

Overview

Are you passionate about coaching and looking for a fresh start in one of the most beautiful regions in the country? We’re looking for a dedicated, experienced Recreation gymnastics coach to fill our Head Coach position. This position is responsible for creating exciting recreational programs that develop the fundamental movements of gymnastics for all ages. This role will require a combination of coaching, administrative duties, as well as mentorship/training of our recreational coaches.

Roles and Responsibilities

PROGRAM LEADERSHIP & DEVELOPMENT

- Lead the planning, development, delivery, and evaluation of the recreational programs and establish program goals in collaboration with the Executive Director;
- Develop age and skill appropriate programming that supports physical literacy, gymnastics skills, and participant progression;
- Monitor program quality, participation, and feedback and identify opportunities for improvement and growth;
- Ensure programs align with OGC policies, procedures, and applicable Gymnastics BC and Gymnastics Canada standards.

PARTICPANT DEVELOPMENT & COACHING
- Oversee recreational instruction and promote engaging, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate coaching practices;
- Support coaches in lesson planning, skill progression, and maintaining safe training environments;
- Monitor program delivery and provide guidance to support consistent quality and positive participant experiences;
- Support appropriate pathways for participants interested in progressing to advanced recreational or competitive pathways.

COACHING TEAM LEADERSHIP & DEVELOPMENT
- Lead, supervise, mentor, and support REC coaches, including onboarding, coach development, and professional learning;
- Promote consistent coaching standards, safe practices, and accountability within the coaching team.





PROGRAM COORDINATION
- Coordinate program schedules, class assignments, and coaching coverage in collaboration with Leadership staff;
- Identify staffing, equipment, and resource needs and communicate them to the appropriate staff;
- Support program registration planning, participant retention, camps, and new recreational offerings.

ADMINISTRATION & ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT
- Complete program administration, documentation, reporting, and follow-up within designated administrative time;
- Contribute to OGC events, camps, competitions, and other organization-wide initiatives as assigned;
- Collaborate with other programs and staff to support organizational priorities and operations.

Qualifications & Requirements

- NCCP Gymnastics certification appropriate to the position, or equivalent qualifications and experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of gymnastics coaching experience
- Knowledge of age-appropriate instruction, physical literacy, and participant development
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Experience mentoring or supporting other coaches is an asset
- Current First Air/CPR certification
- Respect in Sport certification
- Successful Vulnerable Sector Check
- Availability to work evenings and weekends
