About Us
Children Matter Community Services (CMCS) is committed to creating a world where every person has the opportunity to thrive. As advocates, guides, and champions of growth, we work toward a more equitable society where each person’s strengths, voice, and potential are recognized and no one is left behind.
In this role, you will help lead support for a young person with diverse abilities and complex support needs. You will work alongside the youth, their Care Circle, and the team to build a safe, respectful, and consistent home environment. We are looking for a coordinator with strong experience supporting youth with Autism, FASD, ADHD, and other developmental, emotional, or behavioural support needs.
What you’ll do
- Build a respectful, trusting relationship with the youth and learn about their communication, strengths, interests, routines, and support preferences.
- Work alongside the team in the home to help ensure support is consistent, predictable, and responsive to the youth’s individual needs.
- Coach and mentor staff to use the strategies in the youth’s Service Plan, including approaches for communication, transitions, sensory needs, emotional regulation, and distress.
- Help the team look beyond the behaviour to consider what the youth may be communicating and what supports or changes could help.
- Observe how strategies are working, document relevant information, and bring patterns or concerns to the Care Circle
- Support staff to respond to difficult moments calmly, respectfully, and with attention to the youth’s dignity, safety, and rights.
- Participate in team meetings, planning, training,
and ongoing review of the youth’s support.
Who will thrive in this role You bring robust, practical experience supporting youth with Autism, FASD, ADHD, or other diverse abilities and support needs. You understand that each young person is different and take time to learn what helps them feel safe, communicate, participate, and recover from stress.
You are patient, observant, and steady when a young person is distressed or dysregulated. You can consider what may be contributing to the moment, adjust your approach, and guide others to respond consistently and respectfully. You value the youth’s perspective and work to support their choices, strengths, dignity, and independence.
You are also a collaborative leader. You can give clear guidance, support staff learning, receive feedback, and communicate thoughtfully with families and professionals. You understand that effective support takes consistency, reflection, and a willingness to adapt as the youth’s needs and goals change.
Experience/Qualifications:
- Diploma in a related human or social services field.
- Two years of recent related experience, including at least one year of supervisory or administrative experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Strong,
demonstrated experience supporting children or youth with diverse abilities, including autism, FASD, ADHD, and emotional or behavioural dysregulation.
- Specific training or experience in positive behavioural support, attachment-based approaches, and relationship-based, trauma-informed practice.
How to apply Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your relevant education, experience supporting autistic children or youth, and the behavioural support strategies you have used.
At CMCS, we aim to build a workplace where people feel supported, can take pride in their work, and have opportunities to keep learning. We value collaboration, well-being, and a sustainable balance between work and life.
