About SUMU Restaurant

SUMU Restaurant is a growing dining establishment located in Downtown Vancouver, offering a diverse menu featuring Japanese cuisine, sushi, yakitori, and contemporary fusion dishes.

As we continue to expand and refine our operations, we are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Restaurant Accountant / Bookkeeper to oversee our daily accounting activities, maintain accurate financial records, and support management with financial reporting and cost control.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles, hands-on bookkeeping experience, and preferably a background in the restaurant or hospitality industry.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Reporting

- Manage daily bookkeeping and maintain accurate financial records.
- Prepare monthly financial statements, including Profit & Loss (P&L;) reports.
- Perform bank reconciliations, credit card reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
- Monitor cash flow, operating expenses, and financial performance.
- Assist management with budgeting, financial analysis, and cost control.

Restaurant Sales & POS Reconciliation

- Reconcile daily POS sales reports with cash, credit card, and other payment transactions.
- Verify daily sales, refunds, discounts, and payment settlements.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies in restaurant sales records.
- Monitor revenue trends and provide regular financial summaries to management.

Payroll & Tips Administration

- Process employee payroll accurately and on schedule.
- Maintain payroll records, including hours worked, overtime, vacation pay, and statutory holiday pay.
- Reconcile employee tips and maintain accurate tip distribution records.
- Assist with payroll-related reporting and compliance with applicable employment regulations.

Accounts Payable & Receivable

- Review and process supplier invoices and payments.
- Maintain accurate vendor records and payment schedules.
- Reconcile supplier statements and resolve billing discrepancies.




- Monitor outstanding payments and maintain organized accounting documentation.

Inventory & Cost Control

- Work with restaurant management to monitor food and beverage costs.
- Assist with inventory reconciliation and cost analysis.
- Track purchasing expenses and identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency.
- Prepare periodic food cost, labour cost, and operating expense reports.

Tax & Compliance

- Prepare and reconcile GST/PST records and support timely tax filings, as applicable.
- Maintain accurate documentation for CRA reporting and accounting compliance.
- Coordinate with external accountants regarding year-end financial statements and tax preparation.

Qualifications
- Minimum 2–3 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience.
- Previous experience in the restaurant, hospitality, or food service industry is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online or similar accounting software.
- Solid Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience with payroll processing and POS reconciliation.
- Knowledge of Canadian accounting practices and BC payroll regulations.
- Understanding of GST/PST requirements.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Good communication skills in English.
- Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
